How long should it take for labs to come back?
I had blood drawn on Friday, October 2nd. Today, obviously, is Tuesday, October 13. I just called the doctor's office because I hadn't heard from them yet, but the nurse said my results aren't back yet. How long should it take? I asked her how long it would take and she said she didn't know. Shouldn't she know that?

I know doctors usually like to say a week to ten days but they're always full of it! Usually they have them in a week. Unless it's for a specific kind of test, something they're specifically looking for, that can take longer. What kind of results are you waiting for?

Whole bunch of stuff. CBC, Comprehensive Metabolic Panal, Iron, B12, vitamin D, Copper, Zinc... all that stuff we are supposed to get checked, you know.
Also, I had a pap smear that same day, and apparently those results aren't back yet, either.

My NUT gets the results very quickly through the computer at the hospital and lets me know within a week of the blood being drawn. Did you try calling the lab. They may have faxed it to the wrong number, or the secretary is just too lazy to get up and have a look in your file. I'd try the lab first and find out why its taking such an inordinate amount of time. Good luck.

Well, they drew the blood at the doctor's office. I don't know if they did the tests there or if they sent the blood out somewhere for the tests to be done. I'm thinking maybe they did some of it themselves, like the CBC, but sent other stuff out? But I don't know where they would send it. So I don't know where to call. I guess I'll wait a couple more days, then call them back. If they don't have the results by then, I'll ask where they sent it and call there. I don't think it's ever taken this long to get results back before.

My doc gets them back within a couple of days but I guess it would depend on if its out sourced to a lab, and how many critical or rush labs get done before yours. Sense yours is not a matter of life or death or serious illness you will be put on the back burner. I would call the doc's office back & tell them you want an appt so you are your doc can over your lab results , and maybe the will get them sooner.

Even if they send them out, it's usually a couple of days!

For me I have the results by the next day. Sometimes I can even get them back the same day if my surgeon orders them to be run STAT. But my surgeon's office and pcp are tied into the hospital computer system where the labwork is run. So it makes things go much faster.

how has your nausea been since they took out your gall bladder, kelly? are you better now? is this just a regular/routine blood draw or is there another reason you were having it done? how often do you get labs done? my mom says she only needs to go once a year...is that true?
