Any info on INT in Tijuana?
Hi everyone. I am new to this and have a surgery date of 11/12/09. I am excited but nervous at the same time. I donated a kidney three years ago to my husband and last March,I had Tethered Cord surgery because I have Chiari Malformation and I was not this nervous. Anyway, I am going to have the surgery at INT in Tijuana. I need information about the facility that anyone can give me. I used to weigh at my highest 271. I lost about 100 pounds, but have started to put it back on. I am currently 193. How much can I expect to lose?
Thanks to all in advance.... Michelle

Well, I'm still kind of speechless but did a quick search to see what I could find about the hospital or whatnot. The only thing I found that wasn't a press release drumming up business was where one woman said she had her surgery there, the hospital was really nice, nicer than some in the US and 'some of the nurses do speak a little bit of English'.
Hopefully, you speak their language so you can communicate with them about your health care issues.. wrong information can be a huge problem!

Ok, so you are capable of losing 100 pounds on your own, but you feel the need to have intrusive and potentially dangerous surgery in a foreign country (assuming you don't live in Tijuana), when you only weigh 193 (assuming you aren't 4'11 or less)?
Please explain.

Seriously? Your goal weight is only 48 pounds less than what you weigh now. I think you should seriously reconsider your decision to have surgery.

Any info on INT in Tijuana?
WOW! I was not expecting the response that I received. I am going to have the Lap-Band surgery. YES, I had previously lost 100 pounds, but have put some of it back on. My weight is now becoming out of control once again. I can't fight this anymore. I have felt what it is like to be almost 300 lbs, and am NOT willing to go there again. I totally understand everyones feelings on this, because I am only at 193 lbs., but we are all here obviously because we all have personal reasons that we feel that WLS would change our lives for the better. I have researched the INT hospital in Tijuana, (and yes I speak the language) but was hoping someone out there would have had experience with having surgery there. I didn't mean to make anyone angry on here. All I want is support. I have been through alot, with alot of surgery, and believe it is time that I do something for me for once.

I feel bad for you, but I think that empowering yourself in the gym and giving it your all to get that last bit off is so much more healthy for you than lapband surgery.
I was in your shoes once, losing completely on my own and then regaining and running to the lapband as a result. I suffered with daily.. no hourly chronic pain for almost 4 years as a result. Lost my job and gained more weight on top of the pain and not being able to work. Now even tho the band is out, the port is still stuck to my stomach tissue.
It's a major life changing surgery that sometimes ruins more than it patches. I wouldn't do it for 48 lbs.

I don't think anyone is mad, Michelle.. I think it is shock. You weigh what many of us currently weigh now, after wls.
It seems dangerous to us, given what we've seen with those struggling with losing too much, getting dangerously low in weight and having huge trouble keeping enough weight on to live safely.
And I do have to wonder, why Mexico? Because many of us have heard the horror stories of how they will do surgery on anyone with the dollar down there. It is because of the concern for doing something very drastic and the huge possibility of serious, serious complications at having WLS at such a low starting weight.
