Well, you bring up a good point. If you know your weight is going to keep climbing, then why should you wait until it's really high before having surgery? The more you weigh, the riskier anesthesia is, and then you just have that much more weight to lose after surgery, etc. I guess the question is, do you know you can't at least maintain your weight where it is right now?

I'm not saying you can maintain it or that you should be able to. Lord knows I couldn't really maintain mine. Or I never would have reached 270. Although I did manage to maintain at 270 for a good while. I just couldn't seem to drop any.

You're taking a risk, but we all took a risk when ever decided to have surgery. Everyone has to decide if the risk is worth it to them. It wouldn't be worth it to me if I only weighed 193 pounds, but I'm not you.

I hope we haven't scared you off. I do wish you luck, and I hope your surgery goes well. I hope you will stick around here because you can learn a lot. Most people who have surgery in Mexico (or other countries) don't get much pre-op education, and they also don't get follow up with a dietician or anything like that. Unless of course they arrange for it here in the States. Which I recommend you do. But anyway, you can learn a lot here that you may not learn from your surgeon, and you'll need to know about vitamins and protein and all that stuff in order to succeed with surgery. So I hope you stick around.

Have you found a doctor to do your follow up here in the States?

Kelly

Is there a reason, if you believe you getting surgery is valid, that you cannot find a surgeon in the US to do it?

Maybe there's a reason. Your 31 bmi is a giant red flag to me. 60lbs is not worth putting my body through what it went through.

Oh and what happens if you have complications post-op, who will take care of that?

Default Any info on INT in Tijauna?

I know at this point in my life I can not keep maintaining this weight. I just keep gaining it right back. Thank you Kelly, so much for encouraging me to stick around. I have to say I was in tears this morning after reading all of the replys I recieved. I am strong lady, but dam that was hard to take and you guys did nothing but place your concern. I guess I kinda feel as if I don't belong here, but I am determined to get down to atleast 145. That is just my first goal. I would really like to be 130, but don't know what that even feels like. I think I was like 11 when I weighed that. I have been where alot of you beautiful, strong ladies have been... lost some weight and now am finding myself on my way back there. I don't want to put the weight back on and feel like that again. Ask your selves this... What if you had the surgery/ or... lost a huge amount of weight on your own ... and then found that after trying everything the weight was just coming back on and you could not lose it anymore . What would your next move be? Would you not want to try something else? I am terrified to be there ever again. I really hope I can gain some friends on here and that 6 months from now we will look back at these posts and laugh. Thanks to all of you that do understand and have asked me to hang around here, and may worry about me, but understand my dilema. It means a great deal to me. As for the kidney donation. The doctors say it is not an issue. They have checked my Creatine levels for my kidney function, and I am doing great. The one thing they have said is that I need to keep my weight down for that reason. Also, I do have a doctor in my home town that I have actually seen before for a hernia surgery.. Dr. Helmuth Billy. The reason I am going abroad is because, I didn't want to deal with all the BS with my insurance and medical care is SO MUCH cheaper in Mexico. Talk to you all soon... I'm sure.

Who will be doing your fills? the lapband requires a lot of aftercare. Are you gonna go back to Mexico every month until it's right?

Michelle, I fully understand your reasons for wanting the surgery. Just as well as anyone else here, I know how it feels to be on that roller coaster and wanting to get off. I also encourage you to stick around and absorb as much information as possible, whether your surgery is done by a doctor in the U.S. or Mexico because bad advice can come from either. Educate yourself and be proactive in your own care.

I don't remember telling you not to do it, I just asked a few questions that you don't want to or don't know the answer to.

No, no, no. You can hate me if you want to, but I just can't sit back and say nothing when it's possible you're about to kill yourself. I'm not a flamer, I'm never anything but positive on this board, but this is RIDICULOUS.

WLS is not a preventative measure. It is a major, intrusive, potentially dangerous procedure. You are BARELY over a 30 BMI. I just don't understand what you are thinking.

I laughed out loud when you said you were going to Mexico because you didn't want to deal with insurance and it is much cheaper down there. 1) Your insurance company would never, ever, EVER approve you with that BMI. 2) No American surgeon would touch you at your low starting weight.

This is not getting a cavity filled. This is not a root canal. They are changing your insides. They are putting something inside you that your body could reject, that could move, that could go horribly wrong.

I suspect nobody here is going to change your mind, and that's okay, but I had to say something. This is not meant to be a mean message. I'm saying it because I don't want you to die. I want you to stay on this board. If nothing else, just so we know you made it through.

Yes I have a doctor here that will be doing my fills. He had previously done my hernia surgery. Keep it coming ladies. I understand I need to be educated on this. That's why I'm here.

I have nothing against getting surgery done in Mexico. Just wanted to say that. I think we have to be a bit more vigilant if we have surgery out of the country, because it can be harder to make sure your doctor in Mexico is really qualified. But there are plenty of excellent surgeons in Mexico, and plenty of idiots operating in the US.

Really, I think the biggest risk is what if you have complications? You won't have easy access to your surgeon in an emergency after you come home. But you just deal with that by finding a doctor here in the US to do your follow up, and you have that lined up before you ever hop a plane for Mexico.

You should be aware that if something goes wrong, like if there is actually malpractice or something, you will probably not have the resources you would have if you had your surgery in the US. It will be hard to sue a doctor in Mexico for malpractice. Not that many of us end up needing to sue our docs, but just so you know.

Cos its the elephant in the room.... You are going to mexico because you don't qualify insurance wise up here and don't want the expense self-pay cost of the US.

Its not that I or we are being mean, I just can't see someone with a 30-31 bmi going through something so extreme. Undercover is 4'10 and I think she was 200lbs, even that is small by surgery standards (sadly).
