Default Hiatal Hernia

I posted this last week but I'm pretty sure I put it in a spot that nobody ever looks at then I went on vacation for a week...lol.

So here goes again!

I had my EGD last Friday and they found that I have a hiatal hernia. My surgeon said they will repair the hernia when they do the bypass. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this kind of hernia before and if so was it repaired? I read the info the doctors gave me and I guess most people who have them don't even know it, have no symptoms and can't feel it. Sometimes they don't need to be repaired and I guess you can been born with them.

So..has anyone had this before?

I had one before surgery and she said she would see if it needed repair at Surgery time. I guess it wasn't that bad because she told me it would get better on it's own and it did, right after surgery. I always had acid reflux and indigestion before surgery, now all that's gone. I never knew that's what caused those problems. It's nice not to have to deal with that anymore.

The nurses asked me if I had any of those problems and I only get the acid reflux every once in a great while but I never paid any attention to it.

Yes, I had a hiatal hernia as well and, feel happy that I did, because here in Toronto, Canada, that is one of the co-morbidities that got me the surgery covered by our Government Health Program. The hernia was repaired at the same time I got the RNY done and, since then, I have not had any of the awful acid reflux, vomitting, heaviness in my chest, etc. Its been a win/win for me, for sure!

I never knew that was considered a co-morbiditie in Canada. It isn't here but I wish I could add it to the list of all the other weight related health problems I have.

Maybe I used the wrong word when I used co-morbidity. It got me the surgery anyways and I'm happy for that.

Hi there, I have an hiatal hernia and have been told that they will deal with it during surgery. I rember asking how, he said they'd just give it a tug. lol I have not given it much more thought really.

Seems to be a common trend it seems...fixing it during this surgery.
