A Vitamin "Popsicle!" :)
Okay.. so I'm a huge fan of the celebrate vitamins, as many of you know.. so I've started following them on twitter and facebook to keep up to speed on anything new.
I've not personally tried these yet but as soon as I can get my hands on some of the ENS packages I soo want to try them, since I love popsicles.
This was posted on the twitter page the other day and all I can say is YUMM
Vitamin popsicles, anyone??
Here is the first 'tweet':
V-Finally made the ENS popsicle! Tasted great. Just another... on Twitpic - V-Finally made the ENS popsicle! Tasted great. Just another fun way to get your vitamins!
and another tweet:
V-Chike protein popsicle. I made my normal shake (1/2 Strawberry,1/2 Vanilla plus frozen fruit). Tastes ridiculous! Pic upcoming.
And the third tweet:
V-had to split into 2 molds, so each one is 14 g of protein. ... on Twitpic - V-had to split into 2 molds, so each one is 14 g of protein. Awesome summer treat!
Can't wait to try them!! lol.. I'm not 100% sure if they just make the ENS as described on the package and then froze them in the mold. I'm trying to figure it out. I posted this now, mostly cuz of Shetaz saying she had some.. thought she might like to try freezing hers before the surgery!
Let me know how it works out, if any of you try them.
(and yes, I asked if it was okay to repost these)

Oh yummyyyyyy you know I'll give it a go. I'm really excited about this powder that I can add. I'm waiting to talk to my nut and find out if the ENS drink is counted as a water. I sure hope so kill two birds with one stone I say.

The ENS drink counts as water, yes. All it is, is water with vitamin mix added to it.

Kel,
Have you emailed Vic at Celebrate to ask his opinion about freezing vitamins?
I know that freezing fruits and vegetables can impact B6 and folic acid.
In the book "The Heart Revolution" by Kilmer S. McCully, M.D., and Martha McCully. It gives some charts tables giving the effects food processing has on the vitamin levels in some foods. The bits that might be of interest are:
Losses of B6 through freezing:
======================
Beans & peas - 56%
Green vegetables - 37%
Fruits & juices - 15%
Losses of Folic Acid through freezing:
===========================
Fresh vegetables - 10-15%
Whether this translates to B6 and folic acid in supplement form, I don't know so Vic might be worth an email.
On the freezing of protein shakes .... the good news is that for whey concentrate anyway, it doesn't appear to be affected by a trip to the freezer.
This abstract is from an article: ScienceDirect - International Dairy Journal : Freezing of whey protein concentrate solutions and its effect on protein functionality indicators
Quote:

Solutions (15% protein) of a whey protein concentrate (WPC) at pH 6.8 or 5.0 were subjected to fast, intermediate or slow freezing at −17 °C and −30 °C, with an unfrozen control held at +4 °C for 24 h. After thawing at 20 °C, selected physicochemical and functional properties were compared; these included solubility index, heat stability, viscosity, gel strength, freezing point, as well as observations by cryomicroscopy. It was concluded that there was no major detrimental effect of the freezing process alone on any of the WPC solutions studied at either pH.

Sorry - my bad for not reading (or understanding) properly.
The mere mention of "Twitter" or "Facebook" just leaves me with a glazed look on my face!
