*L* Thanks Miss Keaton.
My surgeon tells me it will take 6-8 weeks for this ulcer to heal. In the meantime I'm still not feeling the grandest but it should be a slow crawl up from here. I just pray that I'm feeling well enough to enjoy the wedding. As of now it is still periodic Lortab, Phenergan and Levsin for the spasms but its decreasing how often I have to use them. If I stick to non-dairy protein liquid supplements I seem to be able to hold status quo. Hopefully a full week of work next week doesn't do me in too much right before the wedding.

Beth, I'm so glad you got the answers, the prognosis, and are well on your way to being well.
Do you know if there are any studies about the effects of stress and ulcers post surgery for WLS? Stress is part of my life...it's my job, my daughter being 2,000 miles away. The other usuals like finances. LOL, I don't know what I'd do with myself if I wasn't worrying about something or someone.
I value those words I read here from you, Corrine, PFire, and so many who've walked the walk so-to-speak before us.
Again, thanks so much for sharing!

Beth, people used to think they could get ulcers as a result of stress. That isn't really a prevalant feeling any more. There isn't scientific evidence that emotional stress can cause an ulcer but physical stree on your body can. For example the burn patients that I take care of very easily could develop ulcers because of the physical stress on their bodies.
What makes us more prone to have ulcers after gastric bypass is just the bypass itself. We have this new man-made connection that can get irritated. Because our pouch is so small we have less blood flow to our pouch than when we had a full stomach. So when you get a irritation it isn't going to heal up as easily. Usually what is found is a "marginal ulcer". That's what I have. That means that the ulcer is on the margins of that new connection.
I don't know what set mine off. I don't take any NSAIDs, I don't smoke but I do occasionally drink regular coffee. I'm not sure what started the ulcer. Coffee hasn't been shown to cause an ulcer but I'm sure the coffee irritated it once it had developed. So no more caffeine for me.
The fact that I was on a blood thinner certainly made things worse. My surgeon had me on a protectant for the past 6 months but it didn't keep that ulcer away. Just shows you, even with protection you really can't be taking chances. So from here on out I am certainly sticking with the rules. No NSAIDs, no caffeine, no smoking and limited alcholol. I'm tired of feeling like shit.
