Getting pain....gallbladder surgery was 11 days ago
I'm hoping to get some opinions from those of you who have had gallbladder surgery.
I had my gallbladder removed on the 19th, 11 days ago. I was in pain for the first 5 days or so, and after that it decreased to minor discomfort.
Since this morning, I'm getting sharp pains in my side (where the gallbladder used to be). It's not terribly painful, but definitely enough to notice. Instead of the dull pain I had been getting for the last few days, these are sharp jabbing pains now.
I'm on a 10 lbs lifting restriction. I did forget last night, and picked up my 16 lb cat. I felt a jab of pain, remembered the lifting restriction, and sat him down immediately. I'm wondering now if I could have damaged something by lifting him.
If it gets any worse, I'll definitely call my surgeons office. But, for those of you who have had gallbladder surgery, I'd like to hear any opinions/advice.
Thanks!

I had my Gallbladder removed in October of last year prior to my GBS, I was only having pain for a few days afterwards. Did you have your surgery done laporsopicly? SP? Or was it open? I think that might make a difference. I think that you should call your surgeon to get his opinon on the situation, just to be on the safe side. I dont recall having any pain like that.
I hope all goes well, and that you feel better soon.

Hi Jennifer. Yes, it was done laproscopically. I had some adhesions (which were cut out), and an umbilical hernia fixed at the same time.
It's not getting any worse...just sharp little pains. I'll definitely call my surgeon, or go to the ER if it gets bad.

Laproscopic Surgery is the best. I had 3 surgeries done that way. First Gallbladder, then GBS, then I had my appendix removed. I would not want to have had any of them open.
Just watch yourself and see how it goes. Maybe it is all part of the healing process. I know that when I had my appendix out I had pulling pain for awhile.
Anywho. I hope the pain goes away soon and your feeling back to your old self.

I had mine out the day after you did. I still feel a twinge exactly where the GB used to be, but it's nothing particularly painful, and it's not constant -- just a reminder that it happened. I feel it mostly when I'm getting up from bed.
Of course if you're concerned contact your surgeon.
I saw mine six days after surgery and he gave me a clean bill of health and removed the stitches, but reminded me that I just had major surgery and to take it easy for a bit. (I can't wait for a long soak in a hot bath, which I'm not allowed to do until Thursday!)
The greatest pain I felt was five days after surgery when I had to sing at church. I took a big breath before my first note and nearly passed out from the pain. Turns out it was only my badly bruised diaphragm complaining. I held my side throughout the rest of the event and got through it. My music director said that she knew something was terribly wrong, but since I continued to sing and sounded fine, she wasn't too worried.

Are you doing more than you have been? You could just be pushing yourself a little too much, doing a little more than your body can handle.
Other than that, if the pain intensifies I would contact your doc.

I was hoping you'd see this 'thann, since we had it done at the same time.
I'm pretty sure it started from picking up the cat. He's rather obese...and would qualify for WLS if he weren't a cat, lol
It's not getting any worse, so I'm going to take a couple of Tylenol and just take it easy. I'll definitely call the surgeon if I get concerned about it.
You had stitches? My surgeon did Dermabond (surgical glue). That stuff itches like crazy!

Yep, I picked up my 16 lb cat last night, and my lifting restriction is 10 lbs. I'm pretty sure that's what triggered the pain.
It's not getting any worse (and it's really not bad at all), so I'm going to take it easy for today and see how it goes.

Sherry, I suspect it is still healing pains and that you may have over done it. I had pain for a good couple of weeks. I especially noticed it with working. If it doesn't get better with rest of gets worse make sure you call your surgeon.
In the meantime stop pickin' up that cat!! *L*
