Default Did your doctor say "no problem"

I am just so amazed at how sure my doctor is about the insurance approval process. I went the other day and she was going to see if there was another Bariatric program with room for me so I did not have to wait until May/June...anyway I told her my concerns about going through the 6 month program only to get denied by my insurance and she said "oh no...you'll get the surgery. You don't worry about it."

It does make me feel better but how can they be so darn sure. Did anyone else have a doctor that was like "no problem, you're in"

So I am waiting to see if they found another program that had room.

never really talked about insurance with my doctor... he had underlings in his office that dealt with that and they were really confident. I guess they're just used to dealing with all the insurance companies and whatnot.

my whole experience with it was great, I went in, told them what type of insurance I had, and they immediately pulled out a list of everything that they knew I'd need to do before they submitted my file to the insurance company.

once all my ducks were in a row (and the 3 month nutritionist thing was the longest part) and they sent my stuff off, I had approval 2 days later.

Mine did that, too. The coordinator gave me a list of what I would need to submit to the insurance company (which wasn't much, btw) and told me my provider was "easy."

My doctor's office staff did this to me, but had badly underestimated how uncooperative my insurance provider could be

There are a LOT of different insurance carriers/plans/contracts. Unless your doctors is only working with a select few, I'd be a little leery. I made the mistake of putting too much trust in the doctors office, and did not follow up the way I should have. This cost me a month or two.

Mine also did all the contact with the insurance. However I did get a letter from the insurance saying I was denied. I called the girls at the WLS place and they contacted the insurance and said I was then approved.

Some of the papers were not received.

My doctor and nurse both told me my insurance would absolutely cover it. Yet I still got a knot in my stomach the week the approval was sent in!

There was never much of a question in either my PCP nor my Surgeon as to whether I'd be covered.. it was covered by my insurance plan and I was more than 'qualified'... my BMI was well over 50, I was (am) diabetic, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and had to walk with a crutch.

Most doctor's office know which insurance company's are tough to deal with and which aren't.... and depending on where you fall on the criteria list whether things will be difficult or not.

Good luck!

My surgeon's office was pretty sure I'd have no problem qualifying for insurance...between my weight (super morbidly obese) and problems with sleep apnea.

Since this is what they do-they know the ins and outs and pretty much was the parimeters are for getting qualified--and all the little 'catches' that could cause a denial or hold things up.

I, however, was not so confident and sweated bullets up to the minute I finally got the official 'okay' from my insurance company.

My doctor was thrilled when he found out I have Blue care network because not only did they waive the 6 months doctor supervised diet BUT they also cover the sleeve!

I had my approval a couple of weeks after submitting.
