Walmart Jeans VS Macy's Jeans
okay.... I know we have discussed the whole vanity sizing thing, but this I don't get. I did a little shopping yesterday and tried on some jeans. First off was Wal-Mart and the Lee Riders and Faded Glory Jeans where I was comfortable in a 22 but could squeeze into a 20, but not sure if I could of breathed all day. I did buy me a pair of dress pants there in a size 18. Then we went to Macy's, I tried on a pair of Levi's size 22 and they almost fell off, then went to a 20 and I think I could of got into a 18 but would of been snug. Okay, then I tried on a pair I think they were Liz Clabournes not sure really... I took in a pair of 20's and a pair of 18's to the dressing room... both too big. I ended up in a pair of 16's but they were still a little loose in some areas. I never did try a pair of 14's but I think I could of got into them.
Okay, so here is where i'm curious... Is the vanity sizing more for the higher end jeans and not so much for say Faded Glory's or Wal-Mart brands? I admit it made me feel good to look at the tag and see size 16, but knowing not an hour ago somewhere else I was in a 22 kind of bubble bursting.
Also, while I'm complaining... I wanted a pair of Levi's and tried on the Shorts... they were still a mile to long for me...grrrrr... I hate having to have things hemmed.

That's weird, Vicki... I find I wear smaller pants at Walmart! lol..
I still say the should sell them by waist and leg length, with different 'cut' options- full cut, slim cut etc.
I wonder if it has to do with how our bodies are shaped? I'm bigger in my belly than anywhere else and still look kind of preggy. Anyway, it makes no sense, does it?

Years ago I heard that higher-end brands did the vanity sizing thing, so your experience matches what I heard. Wealthy people do NOT want to be wearing size 20! LOL!
Remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry revealed that he didn't really wear size 32 Levi's? He just kept sewing his old size label to the waistband of new jeans. When I was at my largest I would cut all size labels out of my clothes. It depressed me to see "28" and "3X" in everything I wore. (Who in the world was I fooling, cutting out the labels???)
Speaking of Levi's, I think it's weird the way their size labels are on the outside of the waistband for all to see.

I'm a total Levi Girl ... best fit for my body by far (juniors super low cut size 9 skinny boot cut). So that's all I ever buy ... and that's how I gage losing inches. I'm sure if I were mixing brands, I wouldn't know what size I was!
Last night I tried on a few pairs of shorts for work ... Tommy Bahama says I'm a size 10, and BCGXMVIB (whatever that stupid brand is!) says I'm a size 12.
Levi's ... size 9 (cheapest)
Tommy Bahama ... size 10 (little more money)
BCGIXMYGDX (???) ... size 12 ($140 for shorts ... uh, yea right.)
((Confused ))

Keep in mind that sizing is different from Women's to Misses to Juniors as well. I am great in Misses 14's from WM and Macys...the Junior 14s I picked up by mistake will fit my left leg. I'm keeping them tho, they WILL fit someday!

That's very true. Misses are too curvy for me because I have no waist ... I'm straight up and down ... no ass, no hips ... Nothin'!
I didn't look at it that way. If misses jeans fit my ass, then the waist is too tight ... I guess I'm a Super Sized 10 year old girl!

Well I cant seem to fit jeans that are highwaisted at ALL... I have to have the low rise.... and I can usually fit a 10 but they are a little loose ... I find . that its more about name brand than anything .... I can fit a 9 now in most jeans ... and am creeping into an 8.. I think the smaller you get the less sizes are so different .... usually my9's and 8's are pretty damn close... and I have .. Arizona .. faded Glory .. no boundries.. levis.... and LEI ...
I spend lots of time at the Goodwill and at consignment ..

Are 9's equivalent to 8's? I thought that's how the sizing runs ... Juniors vs. Misses.

For me it doesn't seem to matter. I get so tired of clothes that i don't buy high end clothes. I frequently buy at Wal Mart (jeans especially), and I buy at mall chain stores when things are on sale. I don't seem to vary in size at all. Pretty consistent.
