Thanks everyone...
We're going to go with shoreman for sailor and operator is still stumping us. At least the assignment isn't due until Wednesday.
Yes, Laura, this is standard school work for a 10-year old...along with pre-algebra, advanced literature and all sorts of good stuff.

Hmm, if the operator can be the lady that answers 0 on the phone, then the opposite would be the person calling for the number! LOL
Or, if they are a train operator, the opposite can be the guy in the caboose?

A sailor is a person who works on the sea.
A landlubber is a person who lives and works on the land.
A landsman is also someone who lives and works on the land.
That's the best I can do.

haha...that IS funny! I'm not sure my granddaughter's teacher would understand the connection....
We left operator alone. Out of 30 words, she managed to make 28 analogies....not bad for a 10-year old!

hmm if an operator "works" something then maybe a saboteur would interfere with the operat-ion of it?

I would say dial tone...
Maybe, phone book?
If it was operator like kids today use the word, opposite is nerd or narc. (No one says narc anymore either though...)
