Starbucks terminology for dummies...
Ok... I have read many threads on starbucks on here. I received a gift card to starbucks last nov for my birthday. Have never gotten around to using it. Well... have been reading a few posts on here about some being addicted to it and how wonderful it is. So, Saturday night my husband and I were at the book store and I decided I wanted to get a cappuchino. Used to be addicted to these at our "kwik trip" grocery stores pre-surgery. I always got the fat-free french vanilla. LOVED em. I have not had one since surgery. Well I went up to the starbucks gal and asked for a french vanilla capuccino with s/f syrup and skim milk. She whipped up my drink. I was so excited to savor it while we chatted and looked at books. Well... it was not what I expected at all. There was no sweetness. Did I use the wrong terminology when I ordered? I still have about $17 left on the gift card and would like to get something good next time. Am I wrong in thinking that it should be sweet and creamy? Please let me know what your favorite is so I can jot it down and order it the next time I am out and about!
I was very disappointed. The gal was young at the counter and had no time for my inexperienced knowledge of their drinks
Thanks... LeaAnn

I think that the thick, sweet and creamy texture is exclusive to gas station machines. They're not cappuccino's as the italians intended...just the best that hot water and "cappuccino mix" can do.
At Starbucks, I always get the passion tea & lemonade "half sweetened" wih sugar free syrup. A little tart, but very refreshing!!!
I think the only way you'll be able to make the coffee stuff taste as sweet as you want it is to add some extra splenda? Good Luck.

LeaAnn--
I'm not into Vanilla flavored things...but I have recently gotten somewhat addicted to McDonalds Iced Coffee (I personally think they're laced with crack coccaine because they really give you a major pick-me-up)...and they have a SF Vanilla one. I know you have a SB card..but in the future when its gone the McD's one is only $1.89...and so yummy (at least the regular flavor is...so I assume for vanilla lovers the Vanilla one is too)!!!

mmmm...frappuccino
Hi LeaAnn,
I love to have starbucks as a treat every now and then. The closest one to my house is a 20 min drive so its not hard to stick to the "every now and then" rule. Anyway, I usually have a sugar free (insert fave sf syrup here - my bux has sf vanilla, hazlenut and cinnamon dolce) light frappuccino. They are very good - especially if you like something cold rather than hot. They used to make them in decaf but I don't think they have the decaf coffee base anymore. I highly recommend them, they are yummy!
McD's McCafe drinks are pretty good, too. Although I worry sometimes that they are going to screw my order up. But friday night my hubby and I had a date night and went through the drive thru. I had a sf vanilla cappucino. It was really good, too. I couldn't finish it all so I saved the rest and reheated it a bit on Sunday morning and mixed in some Syntrax Chocolate Truffle protein powder - pretty tasty! And a great kick in the pants before church, too!

my fave drinks at SBux are the Cinnamon Dolce and the Caramel Macchiato
I order the cinnamon Dolce as follows:
Venti (large size) Iced SKINNY(sugar free/nonfat) Cinnamon Dolce -- this is their largest size and it usually takes me awhile to kick it back.
The other drink i like is:
Grande (med size) Iced SKINNY Caramel macchiatto Upside down-- they are really pretty drinks when they are made right side up but i like my iced drnks mixed well
when i get in the mood to try something new I will ask them what they suggest. They usually dont do me wrong.

My drink of choice right now is a venti SF vanilla latte + protein. 21 g of protein makes a great breakfast! The protein is steamed in with the milk and mixes really creamy. Their cappuccinos aren't as creamy as some because they are "real" Italian cappuccinos and I don't care for them, either. Another thing that my barista told me was that the SF syrups aren't the same texture as the others. I wouldn't know the difference because I've never tried the others, but I have yet to have anything at Starbucks that wasn't delicious! Another thing that I would suggest is to actually go to a stand-along Starbucks, not one in a bookstore or a kiosk in the grocery store. The employees there aren't trained the same and are nowhere near as knowledgable as the ones in the stores, at least in my experience. Good luck with finding your vice!

My vote is for McDonalds
Vanilla SF iced coffee. Starbucks has awesome frapuccino's -- I use to like the mocha -- but haven't had one since surgery (to much sugar). McDonalds I think makes the best tasting iced coffed SF and the price is awesome. I want one now!

LeaAnn,
I doubt it will EVER be as good as the 'liquid candy' coffee drinks...BUT...I treat myself every morning on the way home from working out to a
"Venti (the biggest), Skinny (meaning fat free/sugar free) vanilla latte, with no foam"...the foam hurts my tummy, and wastes space in the cup...ask for a couple splenda's you can add if it's not sweet enough...it vary's by who makes them...you can also ask for an extra pump of syrup, but I've gotten used to them the way they make them with just a hint of vanilla, and am crack-addicted like Simone...I thought the MCDonalds ones were too heavy, but then I've just tried the iced one...
