Default Hurricane Ike = Gas Gouging???

So with Ike's impending landfall today, has the price of your gas skyrocketed? Within an hour this morning here in backwoods Kentucky I have watched the price of gas jump from 3.54 to 4.89!!!! OUCH!!! Oh and they are rationing it too!!! Please explain to me how this is not gouging us??? How are you affected in your neck of the woods???

I'm in Virginia....our gas is about the same today...no significant price gouging that I can see (yet). I think it is just ridiculous how they can do that ...especially in an area that is not even directly being hit by the storm. There has got to be someone that you can call about that! That is just crazy!

It's one of those things that I have had a hard time wondering for awhile. When I lived in Colorado it never made sense that a hurricane in Florida would have a big affect on us. But when you look at the path gas takes to get to you across the country when starting place goes down for so much of it so do the rest. The price we usually pay for gas isn't based on what the company paid for that gas, but for what they are going to paying for the gas to replace it.

I had to run to town tonight to get the little one some tylenol and decided to go ahead and top off my gas tank (mind you when I say run to town, I live 19 miles to the nearest hick town). Anyways, the price as I pulled up was $4.10 for reg unleaded up from 3.45 earlier in the day. COMPLETLY SOLD OUT!! We have 3 gas stations and all them were sold out except for Premium and there was a line and half for that. I was told by the time the weekend is over reg unleaded will be around $5.25 here. DANG DANG DANG... I comute around 80 miles per day.
