Having a dog?
Hi!
I am writing to you dog lovers out there...
I always had dogs growing up but haven't had one since I was 13 years old. For some reason, ever since I decided to have WLS (back in April), I've been wanting a dog!!!
My question to you is this: is it realistic with 2 children and a full time job???
I know a dog would have me be more active since it needs to be walk a couple of times a day...
If you do it, how do you do it?
Thanks

I have 2 puppers, and single, and living with mom and dad til I find my own place. I moved after the divorce, and basically demanded that I get to keep them. Its hard sometimes, but sooo worth it - they are my babies!!!

NO...
I am a firm believer in supporting a dog, and by that I mean give the dog your full attention, and the results will pay off.
Leaving a dog alone for the day while you work, and the kids are at school is bad, they need love and attention, or they will act out. My "fuzzy buddy" as I refer to him as is with me 23/7, and he is the best dog around, everybody wants to steal him...90 lb lab, and hes a joy, but I firmly believe its because of the time spent with him.
And thank God I havent spoiled him, (Ill be right back...gotta take his oatmeal raisin cookies out of he oven!!)

I have dogs. They're so important to me and I love them more than anything. They don't need to be walked multiple times per day unless you don't have a yard. We just let our's run around outside in our pint-size yard. They get walked once per day. While you're at work the dog will just sleep in your bed most likely. That's all mine do when my mom's at work. They're so much fun, and they're so nice to have to help you feel better when you're feeling sad. I read in my dog magazine that the best kid-friendly dog is the Pug. We have one, and LOVE her!

Dogs are a big commitment , they shudnt be left alone for hours n hours on end . Its not fair on them !
Thats why I have a cat , they are happy to sleep in the warm all day , when Im out at work .
I love my wee puddy cat , they can be very loving too .

As much as I love my dogs they are a lot of work. 2 kids, 3 dogs and 2 cats...sometimes they all drive me crazy. All the animals were hard luck cases. Our Westie, Xander, and Dachshund Coney was abused from a puppy-mill breader over 4 years ago. A friend of my son's (13 yr old) loved Coney so much he talked his mom into getting him one. Unfortuntately this mother thought he should be the one responsible for the pup and the poor guy spent 18+ years a day in a kennel. He spent the day in his own filth. We agreed to take him to help potty train him and well they didn't want him back. He is now the most energetic and playful little guy around.
My husband and my schedules are varied enough that the pups aren't home alone much of every day. Funny thing is they love their mid-day naps, so it works out well. But it is almost like having more kids in the house. They are a lot of work. Had it not been for what brought them to us I probably would not have the dogs. I love them all and they are truly our best friends.
