Default Are clothing sizes whack...or is it just me?

I was a 24 when I started this journey and am now a 4-6 and a S or M top. I remember when I was in the middle of my weight loss and Hunnyblonde posted that she was a 4...I thought that was impossibly small and that I'd never be that size. And now I am. But, somehow, I'm just not satisfied.

I know sizes have changed since I was a teenager. Vanity sizing and all. But it seems like a 4 is waaaaaay bigger than I thought it would be. I just don't think I'm that small. I admit to a touch of body dismorphism, (kind of like being a little pregnant, wouldn't you say?) but can it all be just that I can't see my weight loss? Or is clothing just really bigger than it used to be?

I'm feeling just a little screwed up in the body mind connecton department. Why can't I just be happy with my loss and quit being so self critical?

125 total pounds gone forever!
Reached my new goal of 130...and I think I want to stop losing now. "Stop losing now".Wow, I never thought I'd ever say that!
Looks like Donna is right though. My body doesn't seem to be done...

I know what you mean. I started my journey at 388 and I was in a snug 30-32. Now I can wear size 20 jeans and 14-16 tops and I'm in the low-mid 200s. I bought a Large sweatshirt the other day and I couldn't believe there were no "x"s in front of that large. The last time I was at this weight, I was in 7th grade in 1996 and then I was into snug 24-26s.

However, now I think I have more muscle mass and definition so I really am not sure if size definitions have gotten bigger or it is just a matter of altered shape. Either way, getting into a 4 is AWESOME! Congrats!

I'm VERY critical of my body and I still see fat along with the loose skin. I too, can wear a size 4. But I wear a size 8 in Levi 512's, and 6 in others. I can wear a GIRL's size 18 sweater and size small in tops.

Sizing these days seem to be left up to the manufacturer and not really consistent across the board. Clothing does seem bigger these days! Is that to make everyone feel slimmer???

I think clothing is bigger, too. I just bought a pair of capri pants in a size 16. They fit wonderfully. However, I have some items I saved from 10 years ago that are size 16. They are far too tight. I would need to lose 15 or 20 pounds to get in my old stuff. (And that stuff was Liz Claiborne, which ran a bit larger than other lines during that time!) I definitely think clothes are larger now.

I agree with the new sizing. I have kept jeans from a size 12 to a size 20 that are from at least 10 years ago. I cannot fit into any of them except the 20. I went shopping the other day for a couple pair of nice dress pants to wear to work and fit in a 16? I keep trying on the other jeans hoping I can wear them no luck so far.

Have you guys been to Ann Taylor?? According to Old Navy I'm a 14 ... Levi says I'm a 12 ... Miss Taylor tries to sweet talk me into buying her clothes by telling me I'm a size 10.
It's rediculous.
I always go with the largest size ... I don't want to kid myself ... so I'm proud to say I'm a size 14! Woohoo!!!

You can alwasy feel worse if you want by going out of country....I have an Armani dress that's a size 6 that's tight.....I have clothes ranging from 2-6 that fit. When I was 180 lbs...I had a dress made in Mexico that said a size 8!

I have patterns from 1970s.....i'm a size 10 for those.

Then add height, torso length, pant length, bust size....and nothing fits!

I'm a petite in height....legs are too long for petite pants....too short for junior sizes...but to find slim waist/hip ration...gotta buy juniors and hem everything. All of the women's, ladies, and misses's sizes are cut way too loose in the waist, bust, and arms...but juniors are too tight in my bust and my flappy arms don't fit through the shoulders. I have narrow shoulders. To buy a junior shirt that fits the bust, then it's too loose in the waist.
I buy a lot of sleeveless tops to compensate and where a jacket or sweater if need cover up.

Time to find a tailor!

you've got it. find a taylor and make them your friend. every manufacture has their own size and can do as they wish. I am a costume designer and had a girl complain to me that she couldn't find enough 00 yes double zero. I think if you are smaller then 0 you should go into juniors or see your doctor. I tend to make meny of my own clothes and take things in as needed.
