I just had surgery on the 21st and I haven't had to use insulin. I am still taking my pills but that should go away real soon.

Good luck to you!

I am 6 months out and am now considered a diet controlled diabetic. No insulin, no oral medications. No longer on BP pill to "save" the kidneys. So it isn't completely gone but no longer controlled with drugs. That was a big "WOW" moment for me

My diabetes was controlled with only 1 medication. I left the hospital post-op with NO diabetic medication with a glucose level of 148...by week 4 my fasting glucose levels we 94...totally normal!

I would think that if you have to have insulin you may not see such a quick, dramatic response...but give it time!

I was insulin dependent, it took me almost 3.5 months to get off the insulin.

Default Diabetes Issues

Have any of you with type II diabetes had any unusual issues after WLS? I am three weeks out and have started having high blood sugars after drinking my low carb protein shakes and/or eating only proteins. Whenever my BS go to 126 or higher I get the shakes, chills, followed by vomiting all the symptoms of dumping only thing is I have not eaten anything. After 12 hours of only water I had a BS of 180!! I have restarted my metformin but I don't understand this. Even the DR. is not sure what's happening. They are running a load of test, I had blood work run today and will wait to see the results soon.

Have any of you had any weird issues with your diabetes after surgery? The first weeks they were normal.
