I just feel so overwhelmed by everything that is happening right now... everything is happening TOO FAST & furious, after five years.. WHAM.. it's get moving NOW.
It just feels REALLY strange and quite stressful..
My desire to go to McDonalds and get a Quarter Pounder is HUGE tonight, too.

Well, I just got laid off and I didn't see it coming. It was a huge blow. I told my boss I was in need of spinal fusion and 2 days later, bam!! I was out their door. Being a manager there for 8 years and no severance pacakage was even given to me. I feel ya on wanting to get a Quarter Pounder. I would like to give the company a pounding. So many people are getting laid off or fired and it really is gettins pretty scary.
Cheers to us and our new chapter of life. This is going to open new doors for you and I. So many lovely people out there have been helping me through the past few weeks. I am finally looking at this as a positive change in my life.
Best of luck for the future. Keep your head up.

Same boat
Kel, you and me and Blueyz are rowing in similar boats. I'm relating to the job loss. It was Friday for me.
Friends keep saying that I'll look back and see it was the best thing that could have happened to me. ::scratches head::: um, well time will tell.
Just want to say you're not alone, and I'm sad to hear you're dealing with the same shit I am. Well, one of the same turds I guess
So, let's believe it IS a gift in disguise...I figure it's better than the option of viewing it the OTHER way huh?

Thanks for all the nice comments.. both about my new look and the support over the massive changes in my life.
I guess it's God's way of telling me it is definitely time to make that move to VT. Recent weeks had both of us waffling over who was moving... Now, though.. as least I can collect while job hunting in a very depressed market.
The timing of the house being sold is just off a few weeks.. but now at least I have one full week of unemployment where I can spend it prepping the final details for our move to VT. We're still looking for someone my daughter can live with here locally for that week between the move and her return to the dorm. If nothing local, she'll either have to go stay with her grandparents in NH, come to VT with me, or possibly go to her roommate' s house (which is in MA but too far for her to really go to work everyday, so she'll loose that week of pay..which is what she really wants to avoid)
I have barely slept all night.. was up at least three times.. I'm really dreading the next two weeks.. I imagine it'll be almost funeral like in atmosphere for the majority.
There are some girls there that have worked together for 30+ years..and husbands & wives that split shifts.. so this closing is really going to be hurting tons of people.. it's just so heartbreaking.

I feel all your pain hugely, having been released from jobs a number of times. It wasn't always the 'best thing that could have happened', and a window didn't always open, so you won't get Pollyanna-isms from me. It WAS always the beginning of another path my life was to take. It did always end up being steps forward, just not right away. I send you all a bit of strength to face the uncertainty of the future with your heads held high and your feet firmly planted under you, however!
One thing needs to be stressed and stressed and stressed. You all MUST Cobra your health care coverage if you relied on your employment for your insurance. No one can exclude you or rider you if you have had continuous coverage, but if it lapses, GBS is a pre-existing condition that will be completely excluded--not something we can afford, no matter how much we end up making. I don't mean to be 'mom'-ish, it's just so much more important than the wage we make.
Good luck, my friends, and just remember, in my experience, when stuff starts just falling into place, you know you're on the right path.

Well, 2008 will be "special" in more ways than one!
Thinking of you and continuing to wish you the best.

Thanks Blueyz.. it was so hard today at work It was like a funeral.. everyone is so sad.. I felt bad, as I'm sad for them, but not really for me. Odd feelings there. But I am going to make the best of this for sure.

Phoenix, thanks so much for the support. I can't imagine dealing with all that you're dealing with right now.. and for you to still be here offering me support.. it's such a loving and generous thing to do and very much appreciated.
For me, I do think it is the best.. my job was completely stagnant and I was simply marking time there, waiting till my daughter Michelle went back to school in Sept to move on.. now I have that small severance to fall back on, plus unemployment as well. I consider myself the lucky one, for sure.

Thanks for the reminders and well wishes, Donna.. Corporate has been really thorough in making sure we get all the info we need on how to claim for unemployment as well as COBRA or MA Health..
And due to MA having the legal requirement for all residents to have medical insurance, they also have a program to reimburse some people 80% of the cost of cobra and it appears that I will qualify. And I'll only need cobra until I get married in Oct. Odd to feel so blessed amidst so many others suffering, though.

Good luck and God speed. I'm sure you'll get through it just fine. Even if it doesn't seem like it now. I'll be praying for you.
