Default Missing Money??

I was browsing thru my Womans World magazine, and they had a small thing in it about missing money. It gave a web site Missing Money Free Search for Unclaimed Property - Officially endorsed By The States . I went to the site and it is actually pretty cool.

You put in your last name, click on a state and it will see if they find any matches. Believe it or not, I found 2 matches for my husbands uncle that passed away a few years ago. It will tell you if the missing money is under 100 dollars or over 100. Both accounts I found for my husbands uncle was over 100 each. One being a checking account, and the other from some sort of finance company. It then gives you a form to fill out and send in, to help in claiming the money.

Pretty neat.

I had found at one point that I was owed some money from when I was in college and earned some money at a job at the University. It was only like $73 or something...but when I tried to claim it, I had to fill out this paperwork and attach "proof" I was working there during that year. That was like 20 years ago...so I don't have any tax returns or anything like that. And I was like...how am I supposed to prove that???? So I just wrote it off...eventhough it was only $73...I was kind of bummed it was mine and I couldn't claim it.

Yes, please be careful if you think this could be a fraud. Like I said, the site was in Womans World. I have not done any research at all on the authenticity of it all. On my husbands Uncle, they had his address listed. Hes been gone for quite a few years, so I don't think anyone would be trying to get his SS, but one can never tell.

The State of NC has either an official site of their own or a link through the state gov't website ( I don't remember which one) to look for missing money. Other states may as well.
