Still psyched!
So far I have raised $200 dollars from sponsors! Yippee! I still have 2 weeks left to "bug" people ! hehe Thats a perk in the medical field...when ya need something, its your turn to bug a rep!!!!
Noooooo you dont have to fundraise, they suggest it, but its not mandatory! I have found that the people that are supportive of my surgery are more than happy to contribute! (and good buddies too, you know who you are )

Okay now it is less than 1 week away, are any of you guys still in?
I am going to make a sign, 'cause they have protesters there FROM NAAFA... my sign says " I TRIED TO ACCEPT MY OBESITY, BUT MY COMORBIDITIES WOULDNT LET ME!"
What do you think of those apples guys?

We're In!
Bridg:
I know that Melanie and I are still in--we've already paid our registration. So, we'll be there!
I think your sign idea is great. We're seriously contemplating signs of our own. If I make one, I think it will have a "before" and "after" picture with "WLS saved my life" on it--something like that.
I'm excited about the walk. I think it will be great fun! But we definitely need to talk about details. We want to meet you Saturday morning so we can all walk together.

NAAFA is evil ..... this girl sent me an email about it, the group.... she had no idea that they even existed, but she gave me a great idea to use on my sign... so far I have 2 things I am putting on my sign;
1. I tried to accept my obesity, but my comorbidities wouldnt let me
2. I was always picked on for being fat, and it looks like nothings changed... Im being picked on for NOT wanting to be fat anymore!
or something like that... or how about FREE FROM THE OPPRESSION OF OBESITY ... I like that one too... NAAFA, bring em on we're ready for em sister!

We did the walk!
Hey I just wanted to let you guys know the walk was great, nothing to intense. Ya just went at your pace. I hope next year we can get a big group of us together. Callery kids in attendace, Valerie, Dara, Melanie, Crystal, Cyndie and myself. Did I miss anyone, hope not. There was a raffle which was alot of fun, gave away bikes and some amazing scales, along with many other prizes. NAAFA didnt show up which was not expected... I for one had a great time, hope to see y'all next year!

Walk from Obesity 2005
For those of you interested in participating in the Walk from Obesity 2005, it will take place on Saturday, September 24, 2005. Registration is at 7:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 8:00 a.m. at DeAnza Cove. Melanie, Melanie's husband and I will be walking this year.
As I remember, the course is 3.3 miles, all on level ground. It is a fundraiser organized by the ASBS Foundation to raise awareness of morbid obesity and bariatric surgery. The registration is $25.00 per person, which includes an event T-shirt. There were lots of prizes given away at a raffle last year.
A little background...In 1997, members of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the largest society for bariatric surgery in the world, formed the ASBS Foundation; a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising public and professional awareness about severe obesity and bariatric surgery through education and obesity research and to support physician and allied health research and public health projects.
I felt it was a very worthwhile event last year and I'm looking forward to this year's walk. If you want to participate, the link for information and to register is below:
http://www.walkfromobesity.com/sandiego/index.php
I will also start a new thread with this post.
