Default Travel To Louisiana

Dear ALL: Advice please:

I am flying to Louisiana next week. I am a little more than 3 months out. So far I can tolerate dill pickles (for salty crunchy instead of chips), SF popcycles, protein shakes, jello, Crystal Lite, soft stuff. Not much else.

I tried sleeping without my CPAP and woke up with a migraine headache.

I get one suitcase - 50 pounds - is what I hear from NWA. Do I take my CPAP? I'll be gone 10 days. Do I take my blender? Also, I cut my pills up, and I guess I'll buy a paring knife when I get there and leave it behind in the motel. What else should I bring with me? the little town where we are staying has a Wal-Mart - so I can get some stuff there. Should I just buy a blender when I get there and leave it with a friend?

I hear the motel has a refrigerator and microwave. WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?

Do I dare try the shrimp down there? I LOVE seafood - NOT CRAWFISH. But sometimes the talapia doesn't even stay down.

Advice please.

Wow Rose.. over 3 months out and that's all you can eat I'm really sorry!

First.. get a pill splitter.. it is small and easily packed with you, so even if you get a delay at the airport, you can still take your meds.. I paid less than 3 bucks for mine at the drug store.. Next, I would check with the airlines about bringing medical equipment.. how much does your CPAP machine weigh? Is the 50 lb limit for the first bag with extra charges for anything more?

And if I were you, I'd look into a 'magic bullet' thing instead of a blender which I think is more compact.

As for the shrimp.. that seems to be a popular meal shortly after post-op.. maybe try some at home before you go to see if you tolerate it? Can you have chili? I never liked it before, but I tried it recently and really enjoyed it!

I hope you have a good time in LA.. I used to go to NO annually for vacations.. and had a great time.. I'd love to go again, though the food would be sooo tempting.

Have fun!

Definitely invest in a magic bullet, Wal*Mart has them, they are pretty inexpensive. I am 3 months out and trying new foods is hard for me sometimes, but after a couple of tries, it seems to get easier. Except beef and Pork, I still can not tolerate them very well. Shrimp is easy for me, I am allergic to it so I can not eat much of it, but it goes down alright. Fish I can still have hard time with, it just does not want to go down for some reason. Crab is easy to eat.

I would imagine you can carry on on your CPAP machine, depending on how heavy it is, if you can not sleep without, it sounds like you really NEED to take it along. Wal*Mart sells a pill cutter for about $3.45, I just took mine on a trip to Disney, I put it right into my carry on bag along with the rest of my meds. I had no problems with it. I was too scared to put my meds in my checked luggage, as my luggage has been lost 2 times in the past.

I hope this helps!
