Most of us, I think...
Most of us, I think never really saw ourselves as big as we were. Distorted body image is VERY common. When I look at fotos from before, I can't believe that that was me! Now if I see someone in a store looking at a size 22 or 24 garment which was my old size, I can't believe I was that big-yet obviously I was. And now, at goal, I still don't feel as thin as I am. When I see someone else who wears the same size as I do now (10) I can't believe I am the same size as they are-I feel bigger. My therapist, who I have been seeing before and still am, says I am now smaller than she is, and I find that hard to believe.
You will likely be required to have a psych consult before your surgery and a reputable surgeon won't operate on you if you are a smoker. You would be placing yourself in serious danger to have this major surgery while a smoker. Please do whatever it takes to quit-for many reasons, even if you decide against bariatric surgery. And we are always here for you!
