Aw sweetie I know just what you mean. I took a plane ride and I was too embarassed to ask for the extender. I was on the window seat and put the seat belt over my stomach and hid the fact that it didn't latch with my arms and book. The worst part was all the bruises I had on my thighs from being squished so bad in the seat. I haven't ridden on a plane since. Know I have lost almost 60lbs I bet I fit in that dang thing now!

I used to fly a lot for work, and the worst times of my life was getting a plane, it was so bad that I stole the belt extender, and kept it in my briefcase, so I dint have to ask the skinny little shit stewardess for the extender, and then the wait, the longest wait of your life, sitting there, with an empty seat next to you, and watching every person that comes down the isle, looking at the seat numbers on the overhead, and thinking...please..please keep and empty seat next to me...please, and when someone sat there, I always felt kinda bad for them, it made there trip miserable too.

My travel agent knew I always reserved an isle seat, and heaven forbid if the airline screwed up and I got stuck in the middle, of the window, I changed flights more than once when that happened, especially on a long flight.

Then you had to eat a meal when the tray would not come down, another "crawl under the seat" and not come out until you land time!!

As someone who always believed I was not so big, getting onto the airplane was always a reality in my face moment. I guess I used to believe that I had a phobia of getting on planes and really it was all about getting into and fitting into the seat that was me fear, I would feel sick to my stomach, get hot and perspire until I had quietly requested the extender and gotten into my seat with the belt around me. Due to always flying in coach the chair in front of me was always ontop of me too. I liked the front row of coach cabin for room infront, however the arms of the chairs were without the flexibility of being raised up to provide more width comfort. Fortunately I never experienced any unpleasant comments that I heard anyway from other passengers who were next to me, but the worst came from my own thoughts and self talk. This was the way I traveled for decades both inter continental and overseas.

Today it is another world when I fly having just returned from traveling, I can say that another gift of having this surgery has given me the ability to relax and not go through panic before and during boarding the plane and getting in my seat, now the belt fits with much room to spare, the seat infront of me now is infront of me and not on top of me, the table opens and there is space between it and my stomach and I am not forced to share the table next to me or use the little pillows to set my tray on and like Whitney having the room for my legs that are no longer covered under a stomach that covered the tops of my thighs almost to me knees is a real miracle.

Soon very soon you will have this kind of experience in your past and you will add this too your list of amazing accomplishments you have achieved and something that many take for granted you will come to look at in a completely different way. This is the one of the great gifts you are approaching and you deserve to look down the path of your journey and know it will be yours soon.
