Any Dentists In The House?
Just looking for a little advice!
I've been having what I thought was a toothache in my upper right molars. When I was talking to the nurse at the Dentist's office, I was able to articulate a little better that it is specifically in the gums between two upper molars--the tooth itself doesn't hurt. It is sensitive on both the inner and outer sides and is exacerbated by chewing on crunch or dense things. It almost feels like a nerve type pain, but the affected area is sore. It's a little red to look at but only a shade or two different than the surrounding area.
I'm telling you all this because I can't get into the dentist's office until next Wednesday.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be or what I could do to get a little relief until I can see the dentist? I'm pretty much eating soft foods until then to help with the pain.
Thanks in advance to anyone with any ideas!
-Mike

Former dental assitant; it's probably an abcess, if it swells than you'll know for sure. It could also be something as simple as your sinuses acting up though you may not even know they are; something stuck in between your gum and tooth, like a popcorn hull, those can get up there and cause a great deal of pain, especially if it's been a few days; or a cavity at the gumline where you can't see it and it's getting close to the nerve.
As for what to do until you can get in, I like the rapid release Tylenol's since Motrin is a no-no. You can keep switching between hot and cold compresses and, needless to say, no chewing on that side.
Also, try a decongestant, if it is your sinuses, the draining will help with the pain.
Good luck!
Steph

THANK YOU STEPH!
I was starting to think Abscess, but today it's been okay, just sort of a dull ache. It's not swelling yet, and hopefully it won't.
I've been eating popcorn since about three weeks ago, and the wheat crackers I eat have little bits/husks in them...it's totally possible that something could be stuck and I've flossed the hell out of that section but nothing's coming out!
I appreciate your input--I'm going to the store later for Tylenol!

Oh Mike:
You certainly have my sympathies. I too as you probably read have had a rough go the last two weeks, between a wisdom tooth and then a broken molar.
So sorry they can't get you in any sooner then Wednesday. And to have to suffer during a holiday weekend. Hopefully the advice given by the former dental assistant will bring you some relief and make it tolerable. I hope each day you feel better and that it's just a hull that needs to work it's way out. Take care and feel better soon!
Sharon

I found the Vicodin from my surgery. I think I'll make it through!
Seriously, it's been a little better today, but I can still feel it. I took some Tylenol earlier and have been careful about what I've eaten, but still--I HATE having to go to the dentist.
