Hi All!

I've been around, sporadic at best, just lot's of drama that I pray is finally coming to an end. Here's the latest on my family and I.

Nisa – Wifey is healing just fine! She's getting stronger, feeling better in general, and starting to sleep at night. We saw the plastic surgeon last Friday. He took out her drains, and gave her another 50cc fill in her expanders. (For those who don't know, she had a bilateral mastectomy). The reconstruction/implants will be scheduled in about 4 weeks or so. She picked up some sports bras and found they are very comfortable. We see the surgeon tomorrow and find out the results of the pathology tests from the breast tissue they removed. I'm sure if there was anything, the doctor would have called. We may find out tomorrow if radiation will be recommended.

Thank you all for your continued prayers.

Me – Had a good job interview last week, and it sounds VERY promising. It's an engineering / telephony / networking company with an office right down the street from me. This is the perfect position for me, almost like a "ground floor" position. I'm hoping/praying I hear from them before the holiday weekend! Please keep it in your prayers for me!

The past year, I've felt I've been pulled in a lot of different directions as far as my career is concerned. I had looked at entering a different area in my field (information systems), and going back to school. I had started a doctorate program, but after Nisa's diagnosis and resulting surgeries, I dropped out. That's okay. Looking back on it, I found this is not the right thing for me. I had also been considering switching to teaching, that is until the economy went way south on us and teachers are being laid off left and right.

After a lot of talking with Nisa and soul searching, I've decided to switch careers. I considered doing this a year or more ago, and even asked some of you, your thoughts. I'm taking the leap and plan to starting nursing school the end of August. This is what I want to do. Honestly, I'm tired of sitting at a desk and doing things that may or may not be of any use to anyone. This happens a lot in the computer industry. You can come up with something great that management decides to not use, or be assigned a project only to have it canceled. I want something with more of a challenge, a dynamic environment, where I can work with and help people. I want to make a difference, even if it's one person at a time.

Of course, I will start out as an LVN/LPN, and this school also offers IV and phlebotomy certifications. Best thing is, this is an evening program that will fit my schedule. My plan is to go into nursing informatics.

As for my weight, it's been holding. Although I've not been able to keep an exercise routine, I think I'm doing pretty darn good right now. I want to lose another 15 lbs. and maintain. I really don't want to be "thin", I'm just being realistic. Even if I don't lose any more, and stay at my current weight, I'm comfortable with that.

As for our son, he's doing. Still looking for a job, and working hard on his BS degree in criminal justice. He's a good "kid" (okay, he turned 20 last month, but he's still OUR kid.) One thing he's started as a side business is a ghost tour. It's a three hour tour, where he/we take you to visit various haunted places around the Inland Empire and explain the stories behind the sites. It's pretty cool, and we've taken some great "ghost" photo's with lots of "orbs."

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts!

Pat, thanks so much for continuing to update us all on how you're doing. I know many of us wonder about you and keep you in our thoughts. This update sounded more upbeat and positive than ones in the past, and I'm now breathing a little easier for you. You sound resolved to a plan for the future, subject to change perhaps, but overall positive. I'm keeping my fingers double- and triple-crossed for your whole family, especially Nisa. Best wishes to you!!
