My first thoughts are: What type of surgery did you have and how far out are you?
Yes you should eventually be able to eat bread, but I was told to stay away from it for quite a while as it can swell in the pouch and give you that over full feeling. As to wether it's true or not I'm not sure. I have heard of others who can eat a little toast, but I'm not sure at what point they were able to do that. As for me I'm almost 6 years out, and I can eat bread with pretty much no trouble at all. Again, I would look to your dietary plan and see if and when they say you can have some bread/toast, maybe others here can shed a little light on the subject for you. Best regards.

im just about 6 months out on the 3rd ....... they said i could eat toast but i cant hold very much anyways ... Did you guys get stuck eating the same foods everyday? I want to try new things but everything that i use to eat doesnt appeal to me anymore . Ive been pretty much stuck on chicken or anything with chicken in it ... also ive been able to eat sirloin ... can anyone give me any ideas of some of the things that you have tried ....
another thing too ..... ive been kinda slacking lately and temptation is trying to give in on the things i shouldnt have ....... but im staying strong . I try do something else when i get the urge to eat something ...
My weakness is that im an emotional eater , when i get stressed out or something like that i want to graze ...and trust me i know that i shouldnt ...any ideas to help with the grazing .???
I only have 25 more lbs till goal weight ... seems like its going to stay with me forever ... I know that i dont want to lose it to fast but i think i got spoiled to the honeymoon stages ..
Im so glad that I have all of you to talk to .. these last week has been a little rough ... Thank you everyone for being so nice and supportive.
Forgot to mention .. it was the Lap GB
Wish you all the best ,
Rach

I'm five months out and have gone to Subway for a sandwich.. here's what I do:
I order the mini sub.. some subways it's the 4 inch and some use the 3 inch for their mini's (on the kids menu)..
Most seem to let you choose your bread, but some only offer the mini in the regular 'white' type bread (not sure what they call that, italian?).. or "wheat"... I try to get the honey oat, though as that is my preference.
Then I make them scoop out the filling of the bread.... if they're REALLY busy, I'll just do that part myself after I get the sandwich. I'll often cut the edges off the sides and even the piece where the two halves meet, as it all is just too much bread.. mostly I'm leaving just the 'shell' of the bread, but this works for me.
I usually will get a turkey or ham with a bit of cheese, and add spinach, onion, cucumber and then I'll say "oh, toss a little lettuce on that too.. as if you ask for the lettuce first, they'll fill the thing with mostly that, instead of the yummy dark green stuff. Then I ask for the dressing on the side, so I can control what goes on it.
It's less than 2 bucks for this sandwich (in my area).. and it works for me this way on several levels.. it is one 'fast food' I can tolerate well, it cures the 'sandwich' craving, it's cheap AND it means I don't try to buy bread and have it hanging around my house tempting and taunting me.
HTH.

Rach,
I have two suggestions for you:
1) for lunch I usually go to Subway and get a wrap. I peel off the tortilla (and throw it away) as I eat, so I just get meat and veggies. I never have any pouch problems with this.
2) Pepperidge Farm makes great bread for GBS patients. It is called "Very Thin" Pepperidge Farm Whole Grain Breads - Product Detail and they aren't kidding. It is so thin it is almost see through....but it holds meat, cheese, and all the other fixings. And at less than 40 calories a slice, you can have your splurge guilt free!
We recently discovered it and neither DH (also a gbs) nor I have had any problems. I can usually only eat 1/2 at a time, but just put the rest in a baggie and have a meal for later.
Enjoy!

Tonight I had the new El Pollo Loco Chicken sandwich. Its loaded with tons of guacamole and mayo...I took two bites with bread and all. Gave me that "normal" "I'm eating a sandwich" feeling. Then after that I just took the chicken breast out, wiped off all the fatty stuff and ate the chicken by itself. It was quite good. I didn't feel deprived and it filled me up. I probably could have eaten more with the bread but didn't really want to.

I eat sandwiches, but I use one piece of bread folded in half. Also when we go out to a restaurant (NOT MickeyD's!!) & have a burger, I throw away the top bun.
also, I ask at different sandwich shops if they'll peel the inside fluffy bread out of the top & bottom...

I can do, at a year out, almost a 6" sub at subway. I generally get tunafish and have it toasted. I can do a few bites of non toasted bread but it always lumps up in my tummy. I love tunamelts so doing the toasted tuna sub works great for me.
At Applebees they have a quesadilla burger that is REALLY good. It's one of my favorite things to get there. I can eat 2/3's of half the burger usually. It's good and I'm not a quacamole fan anyway so I don't get that and I get any other dressing on the side so I can control it more, but it's SO nice to go out and feel "normal" when I'm eating.
