Default Detox week!

Just a little update on my ongoing Vicodin addiction. As some of you know, I've been on these pills for a year now...and I've graduated up to 10 pills a day the last 2 months. I've been trying to taper on my own, and have failed, so I finally decided to come clean with my doctor and get myself under control!!! I realize it's a BIG problem, and I need someone to manage it....because I'm certainly not capable of managing it alone. I went to my doctor this morning and confessed my sins!! She was very straightforward with her "tough love" and came up with a plan for me. She wrote me off work until next Monday, and has me cut down to a low dose of xanax 2 times a day and a very low dose of Vicodin 4 times a day..then I go see her in 2 weeks, and we go down again from there, and that continues until I am off the shit!!!! She is afraid I may have done liver damage from the "toxic levels" of Tylenol I've been ingesting these last few months...so I went and got labs drawn. She said I will be shakey and achey, but it won't be nearly as bad as going cold turkey. She did warn me to take the pills EXACTLY as prescribed, otherwise she'll cut me off and I'll have to go in-pt for treatment! I don't want to do that, so will follow her plan to the letter. I told everyone at work, and they are all very supportive. My docs see this all the time in patients....it's pretty common. I just thought I was smarter....but NO! I'm happy to be off this week, but wish it were for better reasons. I'll be spending the week watching movies, sunbathing, watching daytime tv, and sleeping....probably some diarrhea and stomach cramps thrown in there for added fun!!!! I will drink lots of water...take vitamins....and take the pills as directed.....and get through this!!!! I am determined. I think now that I've admitted my problem to my doctors, employers, co-workers, family, and you guys, that I'm on the right track! It's the first step! I will go to NA meetings also. They have them at my church on Tuesday evenings, so I will be there tomorrow night!!! Thanks for all your support. Especially Bridget and Michelle who know what I'm going through and have been so kind to share their stories. It helps to know you aren't alone and that there is light at the end of the tunnel! I'm just so pissed off that I let this happen to myself. I have to forgive myself for that and get on with the recovery! Type to you soon! xoxoxoxo

You are definately not alone. Prescription addiction is a very hard thing to deal with! Big kudos for going and admitting your problem to your doctor and taking the first steps to do something about it. If you ever want to talk feel free to PM me.

One day at a time (it's not just a catch phrase, it's how you stay sane!).

I'm proud of you for admiting you have an addiction and for doing something about it! Unfortunately it's more prevailent than numbers would suggest.

Follow your doctors instructions to the "T"...and you know that your TT family is here as your sounding board.

Default Go for it!

It's amazing how smart our doctors are, hmm? I went to my PCP last month about my too-frequent use of alcohol to handle stress. I thought she was going to yell at me. Nope, just some tuff luv and a plan that seems to be working! So- here's to us! And when you feel achey, lie in the sun to warm those muscles, and when you feel cranky, come here! Good luck!

You have already taken the biggest step in facing your weakness and admitting your addiction. You should be SOOOOOOO proud of yourself. Detox might be hell, but you will be healthy, and free of addiction. You can and will do this!!! I am pretty new here, but I feel totally comfortable in saying we all are here for you and wish you the very best.

Oh and BTW, don't knowo if it is your "thing" but detoxfication baths are very good. I have used them just to rid my body of everyday toxins, and I amd sure they can help you during your weaning. Epsom Salts and apple cider vinegar is a good one, but there are so many on the net. You might want to google detoxcification bath recipes.
Keep us posted and best of luck to you!
