Smile Hospital Bag Confusion

Hi all,

Could anyone please tell me what sort of things i should put in my hospital bag? I've heard that so many of you would have packed different things from the norm.

Thanks

I was in and out of the hospital really fast and would probably pack the same stuff I took: My cellphone and chapstick! I packed pajamas but never even got into them because your hooked up to an i.v. I did have a halter dress that I wore to the hospital that came in handy, I was able to get dressed without getting unhooked!

Oh yes. I have advice on this one.

AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!!!

I brought books, a journal, hair brush, face soap, etc... my bag was very heavy

I never even opened it. You don't feel so hot (atleast i did'nt)--- I slept most of the time.

The only things I was glad I brought were chapstick and cell phone.

Something comfy to wear home (I wore the same thing to and from the hosp), chapstick, I personally felt MUCH better after getting my own undies on after the cath was removed. I was there Monday-Wed evening so I showered and did like having my own soaps etc. Cell phone (if it will work in the hosp). I also had a big zip up hoodie so when I got cold (which I did) I could put that on. And my own slippers to wear on walks around the hospital floor.

As said by others, you'll be in and out too quick to use half the stuff you'd think to bring. All you'd really need is:

A hair brush
chapstick
clean undies/ loose outfit for the ride home
toothbrush/paste
cell phone (though I was sooo high off the morphine, I wish I hadn't used it)

They have stuff to let you shower and you'll be too wired up to wear anything other than your little cotton dress. Maybe take some pics before you leave for the hospital and right after, but you won't want pics in the hospital (cuz drugs can make people do stupid stuff . . . trust me)

HA! All of the above, plus a pillow to hold against your tummy on the ride home. You won't want any jiggling going on, because you'll probably be sore. If you want to try a special new type of lip balm as a treat to yourself, I love the bigelow mint ones from Bath and Body Works (SPEARMINT if my FAVORITE) they help a little with ketosis breath too, and are soooo soothing...and they are on sale right now for just $5! OOPS, just read that you are in UK...it may be different there.

Chapstick
Underwear
I ended up wearing the same thing to the hospital and home since I was only in those clothes for a total of 45 min from my house to checking in at the hospital, then changing into the lovely blue gown.
I tried to read a book and could not even concentrate. Mostly you sleep, then walk, then you are so worn out you sleep again. Then get woke up by your nurses, then back to sleep

Smile Hi Vicci

Just thought you would like this site i have really enjoyed it as it gives you so much information on things like what to bring to hospital.
It was set up by a girl in Ireland who had her surgery in Belgium but the information would still apply to anyone having surgery. Her personal story is also very readable in her blog, i know i was addicted to the site untill i had read everyhting.
Hope you enjoy!!!! WLS Help
