London Here I come!!!
Hi everyone,
I am taking my newly graduated senior to Europe and we will be in England for 5 days. So that I don't get taken by internet deals can some of you London people help me.
We are arriving on a Monday and then Tuesday going to visit friends in Darwen coming back to London Thursday and Friday leaving for France on Sat.
So is the London Pass a good deal for $93.00 each for two consecutive days. I know I am taking Lauren to see Wicked probably on Friday night. But wondering if we even have time to see the sites seeing we are not there very long. We already have a two day bus pass maybe we should be happy with that and just take the double decker bus and see the beautiful sites with out going in.
We are leaving CA on July 6th and will be there on the 7th. Can't wait!!
I guess I want to make sure that Im not wasting my money prebuying pass here in the state when it might be cheeper buying there. What do you all think. I know you are out there please help!!

Hej Kathy!
Glad your date is getting closer!
Would personally skip the London pass.
Museums are free, and once in central London, there is a whole lot of places to visit, interlinked through nice walks from one to the next, hence no real need for the pass.
Would recommend you board a "normal" red double decker bus. Take Route 9 all the way from end to end, get a good map and you'll see what you need to in one journey.
However, perhaps worth your getting an "oyster" card, a pre-paid card for pay as you go journeys on buses and underground.
Still sorry I'm not available to meet up during your dates. I hope you received my PM with internet links on where to go and what to see.
Google "Transport for London" and you'll have great journey planners and masses of tips and suggestions for outings etc.
Keep us posted! Copy your thread into the UK section so as to alert as many UK peeps as possible!
Cheers,
Vim

I did get your PM and thank you. I will take that with me. I think you are right about the London Pass. My daughter really wants to shop for clothes and that is what we will spend out time on. She is going to school to be a Fashion Buyer and what better place to learn about fashion then London. I am so excited.
We will be at the Hilton Tower of London the first night. To bad you can't meet me but that is ok, next time

I'm totally jealous of your trip...I love Europe. Can I stow-a-way in your suitcase?
My son is graduating next year, and I booked a family cruise to Alaska for his graduation trip. Europe sounds like a lot more fun than Alaska though.

Oh Ya Stow away!
You can stow away! that would be fun.
Alaska will be beautiful and I envy you. Someday I am going to get there. If my husband had it his way he would live in Alaska in some woody area where we had to get our supplies dropped to us by helicopter and he shaved maybe once a year. Sounds like a great trip

Ahh, I am so jealous of you Kathy. London is my favorite European country. In my opinion, all you need to do is buy a day-pass for the double-decker buses. It’s a 24 hour pass, so if you buy it at noon, its good ‘til noon the next day. And they don’t check the passes that in depth, so you can actually get more use out of it. When my friends and I went, we used the double-decker to get around everywhere because it was cheaper than taking numerous taxi rides. Also, you should check out Piccadilly Circus. It’s close to the major shopping area (which I’m sure you’re daughter will appreciate), and has lots of entertainment things and cool restaurants to try.
Sherry, my family did the whole tour of Alaska a couple of years ago, and it truly was a wonderful vacation. There is just so much to do out there. We explored glaciers and went dog-sledding, etc. And, since you’re going in the summer, it really isn’t that cold. We went in August, and it was about 60-70 degrees, so you hardly even have to wear long sleeve shirts. Plus, it’s really freaky how its light outside for 20hours of the day, but it allows you to do more things without feeling so pressured for time. Hope your family has a good time!

It sounds like you had a great time. I hadn't even thought about dog sledding...that would be a blast. I just booked the cruise a few days ago, so I haven't started doing any research yet. We were debating on either the Alaskan cruise, or going to Hawaii again...it was a hard choice to make. I'm looking forward to the 20 hours of daylight...that's going to be so weird.
I haven't made it to England yet, but would love to go. I would also love to visit France. I took a European cruise last fall, but only visited Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, and the Canary Islands (are Gibraltar and the Canary Islands even considered Europe?) I really had my heart set on taking a cruise next year to Egypt, Greece, Tunisia, Cyprus, & Malta...but it didn't fit with DH's work schedule. I should just book it anyway, take my son with me, and leave DH at home.

For travelling in london you'll need to get an oyster card. Or you'll pay the equivelent of $4 per trip!
However, once you have used it three times on the buses, you can travel all day & Night.
I hope you enjoy your stay.
The British museum is currently displaying some of the Terracota army and, it's great!
