Default New Hobby

Okay in light everything that has been going on in my home I found a new hobby. I love to Bird watch. I put out a humming bird feeder and 2 wild bird feeders and 2 suet feeders and a finch feeder and I love to watch them. They are so lving and fun to watch. It forces me to sit still. It allows me to become one with Nature. Its great.

Bird watching can be so relaxing. I haven't gotten them for the new house(i should use this term loosely as our "new" house was built in 2001) but we had hummingbird feeders on the window of the old one. It was so neat to watch them. I am not a outdoor girl but I have really gotten into taking care of my roses. I got some rose bushes last year from QVC. They did so well I got a set of 10 this year. 4 long stem and 6 mini rose bushes. They are all doing great. I roses coming out of my ass now. But it's fun. Who ever thought I would be into any sort of gardening or plants? Sue

I too love to watch the hummingbirds. I keep saying that I need to get them a feeder because there are a lot more of them this year.

When I just want to "get away", I sit in my backyard early in the AM with cup of coffee in hand and just listen! I love it!

I, too, love watching the birds at our feeders and bushes. We have such a wide variety, and I have gotten more observant over the years and have added many "new" species to my birding list.

Get a Peterson's Field Guide for your area, some binoculars, and a notebook -- I keep mine right on the windowsill near our feeders. Also, keep a camera handy -- I love taking photos of our avian visitors.

It is, indeed, a most peaceful and calming hobby, and one you can practice anywhere you travel!

Have you ever seen a hummingbird moth? I never had until three yrs ago and they come back (over at my mom's) every yr. They are so kewl and they just zip zip zip around. The real hummers don't seem to mind sharing with them at the feeder. And just as mentioned in the link, they are very friendly and will come up close to inspect you! My mother talks to them all of the time.
