What you take and how your body is absorbing it can be a huge deal. I did not know this until recently. The average that we absorb from vitamins and supplements is 8.5% - 20% of what is in them. Isn't that crazy?? So basically not even counting that we have had WLS, the average person pees out 80% or more of their supplements. I am not sure how much less we absorb after WLS.

This is another thing I learned only recently.... Taking a full dose of calcium together with vitamins and minerals is not a good idea. It could interfere with the absorption of the minerals and once minerals do not absorb well, vitamins do not work properly.
I take separate liquid calcium and magnesium before going to sleep and take my multi vitamins in the morning.

Deborah, there isn't any iron in the Building Blocks multi-vitamin. So there is no problem taking your calcium at the same time as the multi-vitamin.

I take separate 1500 mg of liquid calcium and magnesium (2 to 1 ratio) before going to sleep and take my multi vitamins in the morning.

Are you taking 1500mg of calcium at one time? Your body can only absorb 500mg of calcium at one time. If you're taking a full 1500 at one time you are basically wasting your money because there is no way your body will absorb it all. Even people with a full stomach and no surgery can only take 500 at a time so it's not even a WLS issue.

For cal/mag I take Tropical Oasis and looking at the bottle it's actually 1200mg. (not 1500 as I thought it was) They use an example to explain the breakdown - how you get that 500mg of elemental calcium plus 750mg of carbonate. Tropical Oasis states that after you take it they are separated with the carbonate being digested and the elemental portion going into the blood stream to be used in functions such as building strong bones.

Fluffy, I don't know how much of the Tropical Oasis you take in a day but something to be aware of, is that post wls we need 1200-1500mg Elemental Calcium Citrate/day
I looked up the information on this product on-line. Their site stats that you are getting 252mg Elemental Calium Citrate in 1 tbsp dose. Calcium Magnesium
We can only absorb 500-600mg of Elemental Calcium Citrate at a time. So in order to get the amount of Elemental Calcium Citrate that your body requires you need to be taking 2 Tbsp 3 times a day. I don't know if that is what you are doing but I thought it was important for others, to point that out.
I'm not saying this is a poor choice. We just need to know that what is important is the Elemental dosages, not the total dosages.

It's the norm to be prescribed D2 (ergocalciferol) and not D3 (cholecalciferol). for Vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the naturally derived form of vitamin D. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is synthetic and is far more toxic than vitamin D3 and 2-3 times less effective.
High dose Dry Form D3 is available online at Biotech or vitalady.com.

Fluffy, how much calcium do you have to take in one shot?
There's 252mg of elemental calcium per tablespoon.
As already stated, the usual recommendation is 1,500-2,000mg a day (spread over 3-4 500mg doses). There's no way I'd attempt to chug 6-8 tablespoons of that stuff down in one go.

I take an ounce or 2 tablespoons. I am not sold on this particular product, it's just the thing I have found so far that I can tolerate. I have chewable building blocks but I can't seem to get them down without feeling sick and nauseated.
