Default Fage yogurt

Ok well, I went to the doctor yesterday, he says more food. I know I am not eating enough. He says my weight loss is great, but too much too fast. Ugh food still makes me ill to think about it.

Well I found a grocery store nearby that sells Fage yogurt, as I see lots of people recommend it. I got the plain yogurt. Ugh it tastes like old sour cream I even tried mixing in some sugar free preserves. It helps a little, but wow it is still bitter.

They also fruit flavors in it, but how do you know how much sugar is too much? I have no tried even a bite of anything more than 1/2 water, 1/2 apple juice. I have tried almost nothing sugary. When I look at the labels, how do I know how much sugar/carbs is too much? I am so scared of dumping and want to try and prevent it.

Dr also says I need more protein. I am trying, but I can only cook chicken so many ways So this yogurt seems like a good idea, but how about the fruity ones? Is that too much sugar? Dr. Arreola says more calories and more protein. I figure I am eating about 400-450 calories a day at the moment. He wants me on 800-1200. Yuck, not sure how to do that at this point. I did get more cottage cheese, I love that, mixed with fruit of course.

How about pears? I can eat apples right now, but pears KILL my stomach. I have been craving mangoes, but was afraid of too much sugar.

Any advice, please??

*smiles*

Default Fage

I buy the plain 2% Fage.. I never eat it without adding a packet (maybe 2 sometimes) of Splenda to sweeten it up a bit... and I LOVE it with the sugar free/ fat free pudding powders.

Today I bought Chocolate, White Chocolate, Lemon, Cheesecake, Butterscotch, and........... umm. oh.. Banana cream pudding mixes... I use about 1/4 of the package (1/3 with the chocolate, cuz I just love it so chocolately.

Depending on whether I'm having a smoothie or a pudding..

Smoothie- 1 package of Carnation instant breakfast drink- so far I only have chocolate, but someone posted a link on where one can go to buy vanilla... 8 ounces of protein fortified skim milk, 2 pkgs of splenda, 1/4 pkg of pudding powder, then 7 oz of fage in a magic bullet or blender- mix well. Let set for the foam to settle a bit and enjoy. (You can also add Da Vinci or Torini sugar free syrups for extra flavor. I do add the pudding mix to the smoothie as I like mine extra thick.. you could potentially leave out the pudding mix and add flavorings in other ways if you don't want a really thick one.

Pudding: is the same as above, minus the carnation instant breakfast and with only 2 to 3 ounces of the skim milk....

This I mix by hand in a bowl with a rubber spatula, as it is too thick to do well in the magic bullet. The trick here to keep it from getting all weird is to have all the ingredients ready on the counter, and open so you can dump and mix quickly. Milk, splenda, pudding mix, fage... whip quickly by hand to get a smooth, lump free pudding- and then EAT.. Yumm..

You can also use it in place of sour cream if you don't add the sweetener..

HTH

Another FAGEHEAD in the making, LOL.

I buy mine in a couple of places.. Whole Foods, Trader Joes and locally Market Basket and Roche brothers..

If you can't find it go to their website (just google 'Fage USA' and a link will pop up... ) and email them to ask where in your area do they sell it.. they email back usually within 24 hours (I got my reply in six hours!)

ENJOY

Oh.. I think I've convinced myself to make some pudding for my 'supper' heh...

I love gyros (like Olga's), and make the cucumber sauce with Fage yogurt. Before I could eat "regular" food, I would just eat the sauce! I'm not fond of sweet foods, so I am always seeking good savory dishes.
  • 1 7-ounce container 2% Fage (or other Greek) plain yogurt
  • 2 inches of a seedless (English) cucumber diced very fine (and allowed to drain of excess water -- squeeze through a paper towel)
  • 1 clove garlic minced very fine, or put through a garlic press
  • 1 dash cayenne (red) pepper

Mix well and use as a sauce on gyros (or if you're like me, eat it by itself!)

Warning -- make sure to have a breath freshener if you eat this around other people!

Thanks so much for the helpful replies. I am going to try the pudding one today. I bought everything I need just a few minutes ago. I am trying really hard to get my protein up there, but boy am I tired of chicken! I is getting too warm to eat hot foods all day

I always add a packet of splenda and then add some kashi cereal. YUM!
Shaw's (Albertsons) sells Cabot brand greek style yogurt. I like it better than the Fage!
It's a hell of a lot cheaper too.

(Have to add, it's not low fat. But I still eat it and love it. I'm not a huge calorie watcher. Never have been.)

I eat a container for lunch quite regularly. I like to crumble up a Kashi granola bar into it, but I always add either 2 packages of Splenda, or one package of Splenda and about 1/4-1/3 of an "On-the-Go" Crystal Light package. I can't stand it too strongly flavored. One of my favorite things to do lately has been to sprinkle a little of the "orange" flavor and a little of the "Wild Strawberry" and stir them together. Mmmm!

I am not a fan of pre-flavored yogurt. I buy whatever yogurt I like (right now the ff trader joe's greek yogurt) and add my own sweetener and fresh fruit. I am in total control of what is in it. No guessing.
