To use the tool correctly is to follow the plan even if you're years out but in reality we all will slip up.
I beg to differ. I choose what I put in my mouth and no one is accountable for that except for me. That makes it a MP. (My problem)

It doesnt make me a hypocrite to encourage someone to not eat something like rice or cake during their first year post op.

AS I mentioned above

WLS is about moderation not deprivation

If you arent strong enough to moderate what you eat post operatively and/or after you have achieved your goal thats a YP. (Your problem)

Everyone is going to use this tool differently. Shut up and let us eat cake.

Or not = P

Default Exactly I agree with encouragement

Tammy,
I agree with encouraging people but I don't agree with setting people back. I plan on using the tool to the best of my ability but I know that I'm human and yes I may put a few pretzels in my mouth but I sure wouldn't want to be stoned for doing it. I don't care about what others put in their mouths but I do care about peoples feelings. The tool is about moderation not deprivation but when people state that it's ok to put junk in their mouth just because they are further out they are wrong. Like I said before it's wrong no matter how far you are out but we are all humans and we will still have this addiction for the rest of our lives and we have to deal with that even if we are one month out or 5 years out. Default ofercryininyerbeer!

This has just gone on wayyy too long. Everyone over the age of 2 knows what foods are good for us and what foods aren't. It doesn't matter if you're pre- or post-, fat or thin, at goal or just starting, 5 years out or 2 weeks out. We all know, and no one can pretend otherwise. We have a tool that not too many people have, and we can choose to use it or not.

The bad foods will always be bad and it is up to us to decide how to treat our bodies. If my depression has its hairy claws around my neck and the only thing that will help me hang on to this planet is a 1/2 c of ben/jerry's, then it is my decision. I can eat it, and maybe I'll feel fine and less depressed, or maybe I'll dump, or maybe I'll eat it and not dump but still feel depressed, because I just put more crap in my body. Tammy is dead-on-balls-accurate. That's a MP. I don't think anyone should proselytize about our personal choices, as we are all adults. What is not acceptable (among other things) is to do it, talk about it, then get all pouty faced when someone calls you on it. You know. You knew.

The other side is that unless specifically requested, no one should feel the need to police anyone else. If someone wants something 'naughty' in their mouth, they know the consequences. And maybe they've made 'arrangements' for that piece of cake, cookie, whatever, by exercising more, making sure they eat more good stuff and planning for a bit of a treat--MYOB time!!

Another thing for newbies and posties to remember--it's strictly GIGO. There are 3500 calories in a pound. If you want to lose a lb in a week, either eat 500 less calories a day or up the exercising 500 cals a day. It doesn't matter what we eat from a caloric standpoint. Maybe a chicken breast and 6 cookies have the same number of calories--can anyone tell which one is healthier and a more useful choice? Uh huh, thought so.

The main difference between the newbies and the oldies is the newness and sensitivity of our pouches. When we're new, we have to be so careful that we don't do damage to our new little pouches and that the little bit we can put in those tiny spaces has to 'count'. As our pouches heal and stretch, we have a little more wiggle room, and our realm of choices expands. While I wouldn't have thought about putting a FF baked taco chip in my mouth at 2 months out, at 2 1/2 years out if I am having a serious salt/corn jones, I can decide for myself if I want to eat one. My choice, my consequences. As a matter of fact, I remember being maybe a month out and the rest of the crew was hot for Weinerschnitzel. I fantasized about the frosty freez and how cool it would feel going down my throat....one spoonful and I was yakking at the porcelain for an hour. My choice, my consequences. I kind of think this is what Cindy was trying to say. She is comfortable with her choices and doesn't care (or need to care) what others think of her choices. She knows her body the best, and if she is comfortable with cheezits, etc., then who are we to chastise her? She seems to have done pretty well for herself--the woman is as hot as Tucson at noon on the 4th of July!

When I hear of people having Jamba Juice every day (they're a minimum of 600 cals each, folks!) and then they wonder why they have 'plateaued' for 3 months, I know what the issue is. I bet they do, too! And that's their choice. I could get all up in their face and ask them why they are sabotaging their tool, but it's none of my business! I absolutely know when I am engaging in sabotaging behavior, and that is my prerogative.

So let's just all take our eyes and opinions off our neighbors' choices and stop the shaming and finger pointing. If anyone is unsure if a choice is useful or not, dang, at any one time there is a gob, gob-and-a-half of people on this forum just waiting to let you know if you're being stoopid or not.

And that's all I have to say about that. (hear my very best Forrest Gump imitation!)

I can speak from experience as to how hot this actually is (pretty damn hot!), but a better compliment for Cindy would be "as hot as Phoenix at 4 p.m. on August 17th" - not as poetic, and it omits the element of humidity that Phoenix has (I know there are many ladies here on TT who would get all heebie-jeebie if I used the word "moist", so just put that word out of your heads, ladies) but still a little more accurate as to how hot it actually is here in the Grand Canyon State and therefor how hot Cindy is. Noon in the 4th of July is picnic time, Donna!

In all seriousness, I'm sorry that the differences of opinion in this thread have become so sharp - everyone here is on our own imperfect individual journey, but we all journey together and we are all very much in need of each other, even when anger flares. Thank you all for being with me on my journey and many blessings to all!

^I love you Donna. I just really really do. You are so very wise.

but um Devils Advocate for a moment if I may.....I am somewhat of a obsessive complusive. If I have a craving for something be it a new cd, a new book, or food that ID does NOT go away until I obtain said object.

This is something I am trying to work on
(instant gratification takes too long)

IF my pouch can handle it I am going to make that craving GO AWAY.

My point is this.....how long does that malabsorbation factor last?......because technically wouldn't that factor alone make it better off for newbies to indulge a bit WITHIN moderation and IF they know thier individual pouch can handle it.???

I admit to having a sip of COKE a few weeks ago. No, not diet coke. REAL COKE. It was as good as I remembered it and that was all I needed. One sip. I had a french fry the other day and it just WASNT as good. In fact, I spit it out it was so gross, but it was what I thought I wanted at the time.

I will never go back to the days when I drank a large coke for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. NEVER. The days of supersized fries are also behind me.

It's about curing my ID within moderation.

Deb, actually increasing or changing up your exercise some may be a thing to try before you think about decreasing calories. You are still in the phase where you try to get in your protein requirement each day. Don't cut back on that!
Also, where is that scale girl?

Whole-heartedly agree. You need to actually increase your calorie intake, because it sounds like your in starvation mode. Try upping to around 1500 calories for one week and see if that kick starts your metabolism. Worked for me.
