Default Walking without a cane, crutches or pain.

Hello All,

Thanks to LeeAnn for asking me about walking with my new hip. As I have posted previously about my one year anniversary in a few days, I want to give an update to everyone about the new hip, and the fact that I am now able to walk freely without assistance. This is another amazing gift that I have received due to the gastric bypass.

As of about 4 weeks ago, I have been able to stop using any crutches. This has given me new freedom. Every day I feel the momentum, the energy and new muscle growing in my legs. I make sure that I exercise daily and take at least a 30 minute walk.

Yesterday I ventured outside my safety zone and decided to go on a nature walk for the first time in over 5 years. I am an outdoors lover and getting into nature is a passion. Sitting and hearing birds sing, the quietness of walking on a forest path, the excitement of hearing something russling in the tall grass/bushes in anticipation and the visual stimulation of nature is really my love.

I am attaching some photos that I took yesterday and this past Saturday from the beach where we laid out, the photo of the mountains is showing you were we live at the base of the Apuine Mtns and its not snow you see, they are the white marble quarries of Carrara. The flowers, trails, marble art and old villa are all part of a wonderful nature park that I can walk to and enjoy now that takes about 15 minutes to arrive at from where I live.

I hope you enjoy some of my visual pleasures and experiences.

Paul

Congratulations on your upcoming surgeriversary (sp?). I'm so glad things have turned out so well for you.

Thank you for sharing a little peak into your world. It never stops amazing me the beauty in all of God's handi work.

My husband and I both work for a company that fabricates kitchen counter tops. I can not tell you how many quotes I do for White Carrara Marble, and there you are right in Carrara, Italy! So I think it's cool that I get a glimpse of where some of the product comes from. Thanks for sharing.

Thumbs up

Paul,

What lovely, lovely pictures and a fabulous post! I too was able to give up my crutch after my surgery... (I used only one for a arthritic knee)

It's an amazing gift, having this surgery... it's been like being given freedom after having become trapped in a prison.

Thanks you for sharing your photos and story.

Congratulations on being crutch-free!!! The pictures are great! It is amazing what doors open up for us when we are not carrying the weight of an additional person around with us.

Congratulations on your on-year rebirthday!!!!

Paul,

How wonderful to hear that you are no longer in pain and not having to use crutches, etc. I too look forward to the day that my trusty friend "Cane" can go back into the closet for I won't need him any more. I just can't seem to go anywhere without him!

Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures. I too enjoy being out in the woods, love camping. So peaceful, no phones, no TV, no traffic!!!!!

Keep up the great work and continue to enjoy your new "life"!

I want to come and visit so bad! I love the pictures--the Med. Sea is stunning!

I think we're going to try to head to England next year to visit my wife's family--if it's easy to travel with the bambino, maybe I can talk her into Italy eventually! I really want to see Venice in my lifetime, as well as all of the other sights in Italy...including Carrara!

I'm so happy for your successes--you are such an inspiration. I can only hope that I'm as successful at my one year mark!

Congratulations, buddy--you're awesome!

-Mike

PS...You've got a good photographic eye as well!
