Toony's Same Ol'Tune...
Hi All... well, guess where my DH is tonight? Back in the hospital!!! I had him in to see his PCP yesterday because he was twitching... more like JERKING around, slurring his speech, incoherent and just not himself... When we got to the clinic, his blood pressure was 84/42 and oxygen sat. down to 78. !!!
These are NOT good stats!
His legs are both swollen, one is blistered up (impending cellulitis again)... The doctor's theory is that his heart is working overtime, trying to get blood oxygenated, and it's just not happening... The leg swelling would be explained by that as fluids collect...
The jerking/twitching is probably the oversaturation of carbon dioxide ( part of the breathing problem )...
I took him in today to have his coumadin levels checked... INR came back at 6.5, which alerted the doctor --- his words: a critical level!
I was off with my family, burying my mom's ashes... a very nice graveside ceremony with lots of meaningful readings, laughter, tears... and got the call that he was at the clinic and needed to get to the hospital... and to bring his oxygen tank. My poor DH had to take a cab to the clinic, and did not bother to take an oxygen tank with him... By the time he got there, he could barely walk (jerking so badly), was sheet white and looked horrible...
So --- he's there "overnight," or so they say... getting fluids, trying out bi-pap with lower settings, and Vit. K to thicken his blood up a bit...
I'm thinking they need to issue him a "Frequent Flyer" card for the hospital and give him some VIP treatment! He's been hospitalized in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March and now May... I guess you could say April was a good month for us... Several nurses remember him from prior visits...
His PCP wants him to consider having a tracheotomy to help with the breathing... (oh ish)... lets' hope for an easier solution! My bet is that will be on the agenda for tomorrow's discussion time....
Wish us luck!

Katie hon, I am so sorry!! BUT, I think the hospital is the best place for him right now. He needs better oxygenation. If this keeps up his organs can start shutting down, brain damage can occur, etc.
Are they concerned this is occurring all day or just while asleep? How is he doing with the BPAP/CPAP?
THIS MAN WORRIES ME GIRL! Please keep me updated.
lots of love and hugs,
Duckie

Oh Katie...I'm so sorry to read this. I know how hard it is to play the frequent flier route. We do it with my mom all the time...with similar issues. Hugs your way...
