Default VERY OT! Looking at new cars...

I'm looking at the Honda Fit Sport and the Toyota Scion xD.

We want something small that gets decent gas mileage. Anybody have any experience with either of these? I like the colors of the Honda, but the Toyota is cheaper.

Anybody have any opinions?

Thanks!

Mike , I love Hondas.My first was a 1983 Civic..woohoo.
All I have ever owned are Accords up untill 2006 when I bought my Pilot.

Toyota makes a great car also but I just am loyal to Honda.BTW~ All my Honda's..All I ever did was basic /required maintenance...Never a problem.

They Rock in my book...

Go HONDA!!

The guy at work who has a honda fit LOVES his.. My Fiance has a honda civic and is also *very* loyal to it..

I have a preference for Toyota's personally, but I don't think you can go wrong with either.

For me, I can't imagine getting all my stuff in a car that small either, and I don't have to haul kids anymore!

But for those that like the smaller vehicles... here's one for you:

BBC NEWS | Business | World's cheapest car goes on show

You just might have to wait a while before they're sold in the US (if ever?)

I don't know the Toyota Scion... I went to check out the Toyota web site and couldn't see it? Do you have a link where I could see it?

I do like the look of the Fit!

Yikes Bridget, aren't you worried about fuel economy, or are you lucky enough to have a short commute? If so, I'm darned jealous, because between me and the hubby, we're spending over $500 a month on gas right now. All 3 of those get pretty lousy gas mileage, and the Acura requires premium fuel (trust me when I say that's a pain in the azz). If you're dead set on one of the 3 though, the Acura is the prettiest though. Just wondering, have you been in PA during the winter months yet? Honestly, unless you live in the mountains (like up the Poconos, etc), you really don't need a 4 wheel drive. A front wheel drive is really adequate for the amount of snow the lower elevations get.

Mike, the Honda Fit Sport and Toyota Scion xD are SO similar looking. Looks wise, I personally like the look of the Toyota better, but I also like the look of the Honda too. If you go to fueleconomy.gov, you can do a side-by-side comparison of the 2 cars for "real life" gas mileage, and EPA gas mileage. Assuming that I clicked the right models of cars (not sure if I did), the Toyota get better "real life" mileage than the Honda, based on driver estimates.

Here's another car to toss out at you...just to confuse you some. Take a peek at a 2008 Hyundai Elantra. Now, don't go running when you hear the brand Hyundai...yes, they had awful cars in the 80's, but they've came a long way baby. Add in a 6 yr/70k full warranty, plus a 10 yr/100k powertrain warranty on top of that, and these babies are darned hard to beat. The gas mileage is excellent...almost identical to the 2 cars you are looking at. Plus the car is BIGGER....you can actually fit a real adult (not just the miniature child sized humans) in the back seat pretty comfortably. We have a 2007 Elantra GLS, and really like it. We did "sport" it up a bit by adding the optional spoiler ($250), and had thin pinstripes added along the "swoopy" body line of the car. It's a safe car too...good crash test ratings, 6 air bags, etc. The price is good, less than $16k, fairly loaded, although there is one model with more options than ours. Duckie is a Hyundai fan too....I know she was looking for a new one recently, and debating between replacing her Elantra, or getting their smallest SUV.
