Great thread! I am getting fit to fit in a FIT! We've been a Honda family and I think the FitSport Model, with its 34mpg is what I want. But Mike, thanks for starting this thread. I still think when all is said and done, for my money, a Fit's it!
Will be interested to hear what you report. In fact, I think you've inspired me to go drive another Fit tomorrow. I will likely spend the Twelve bucks or whatever it is from Consumer Reports to make sure I get the best possible price. I intend to go to one dealer and then go to the churchmember in my congregation who sells them and see how I can't get the best deal. But I've talked with people who just love 'em. I cannot understand why Honda doesn't make a bigger deal about them with gas prices being what they are! But I have appreciated everyone's comments on this topic. You made my dull Friday night a lot more fun! THANKS!

Hi Baja Big Dog. I noticed in your signature you have this statement:
MONEY IN THE BANK TO DATE......$240
May I ask what it means?

The Honda Fit is sold as the Honda Jazz in Europe and I have owned one for 2 years now and just love it (the name somehow sounds better). It is very spacious for 4 adults and I really like the fact that the seats fold right down and can hold all sorts of cargo. Also, the steering is wonderful and I can do all the u-turns I need to do - which is a lot with European driving.
The gas mileage is great which is a good thing as the gas in Germany is even more expensive than U.S. I haven't had to do anything mechanical to the car other than routine maintainence. If you have any specific questions about the car, just let me know.

I test drove a Honda Fit Sport today and it confirmed ALL my good feelings. Went to two different Honda dealers. Was surprised how busy the dealership was--made me feel that the lousy ol' economy can't be THAT bad--but both dealerships treated me like royalty. At the second place, I even met the owner of the whole dang thing...And I told them I am not likely to actually purchase til June 1. I have yet to do the official "Consumer Reports" analysis--but both dealerships would go slightly below their invoice price, which here in the western 'burbs of Chicago, IL is $16,123. The second dealer is in a different county which means it's about 50-60 bucks less in tax AND he'd take $100 off. (Both also offer a booklet of coupons for free...supposedly worth $500 in savings. And both will give me free carwashes forever. One will give me free oilchanges for a year...Anybody know if that price is good, bad, or whatever????
Yep, let's get fit to fit in our Fits! (By the way, know that I do NOT get any kind of commission on this. I just think, like many others here (and elsewhere) that this is a really good car.) I wish I were "buying American" although they say You ARE, since they're made in Ohio...but I think the $$$$ must ultimately go to Japan. But what are you going to do? It's a quality-made vehicle, with good engineering, safety, gas mileage, the whole bit....Well, those are my thoughts on the topic and I like the blackberry pearl color, or maybe the red....since it seems everyone's getting silver grey vehicles these days.

I am going to have to test drive one. If I do get one it's either ORANGE or red.
Glad you liked it!

You and Mike just love those ORANGE cars, don't ya?
What happens if you combine a Pontiac Vibe (which already looks like a piece of cheese), and an ORANGE paint job?

There could be a book written about getting a good deal on a new car (and there probably is). But DON'T purchase a car near the first of the month. Wait until the end of the month when dealers are trying to meet their sales goals for the month. You're more apt to get a better deal that way.
Now, if you REALLY want to get the best deal on your new car, take a few hours and read this:
how to negotiate a great deal on a new car?
AND
how to negotiate a great deal on a new car? Reloaded!!!
These comes from my 2nd favorite website. Y'all know what my very favorite website is, right?

One of my best friends at work has a Scion--it does get great mileage (we attended a conference together in Monterey in December and he drove, it was impressive), but we live in snow country and I feel more comfortable in an awd vehicle. I've driven a Ford Escape for the last 7 or so years, which I love (am selling it to my BF) and recently I got an AWD Ford Fusion, which gets about 25 mpg on the road, feels very solid, and is really roomy and comfortable.
just my two scents.
