Let's see, we're also going to pay for our trash pickup so it can be reinstated. Couldn't pay the bill last month so I have been taking our trash wherever I can find to dump it for the past several weeks (usually my mom's trash can or the dumpster at church, but driving 20 minutes to church with stinky trash in the car is gross!). Might catch the car payment up so it's actually on time and not running 25 days late. Also might need new tires on DH's car. Ugh, we really can't afford that one! If there's anything left after all that, maybe I'll actually get a hair cut instead of cutting it myself and having it look like crap all the time. Yeah, stimulate the ecomomy. What a bunch of BS!
You are stimulating the economy. Tires and the other car parts are definitely part of the economy. So is paying to have your trash picked up and your hair cut. You are helping those businesses stay in business. Also, paying someone to install those parts and do that labor is keeping someone working so you are planning on doing a great job of economic stimulation!

Keeping the economy going isn't about buying a bunch of crap you don't need. It's just purchasing anything or any service that keeps other people working.

I agree with you Dave. Mine is going to pay for the brakes that went on my car and some other stuff I need as I've been out of work since January. SPending it is indeed stimulating the economy.

I really don't understand. This is money we would NEVER HAVE HAD. Why are we looking a gift horse in the mouth? Yes, we are all in debt. Yes, our president sucks. Yes, our government sucks. But can't we all just be happy to at least pay some bills? JMHO

But dangit, I want to stimulate the ecomony by using it to pay the deposit on the cruise or buy a new video game. Even some new clothes, not to work on my car. I hate being poor!

I guess my previous post was just kind of a rant about my current economic situation. It's hard for me to read about people who make three times as much as I do complaining about living paycheck to paycheck and then going out and buying $100 pocket books. I've never paid $100 for a pocket book in my life! Heck, I've never paid that much money for shoes or any other article of clothing, except my wedding dress. That's just crazy to me! Sorry, I'm just suffering from an incredible financial inferiority complex lately. Just ignore me!

I am not poor by all means, BUT I went to school to make better for my kids. I think that it's crap that I pay over 15k in taxes a year and I can't even get a thank you, it goes to the people that don't work or refuse to work. Not to mention that I get a 10k bonus from work next month and they are going to take 40% of that for taxes and add it to my income at the end of the year......If I want to pay 100 bucks for a purse then I've earned it......that 10k I get next month will pay my credit cards off so then I can put a pool in my backyard.....I am no better than anyone else but I've worked very hard to be where I'm at....14yrs ago I used to make 5 bucks an hour when I had my first kid....I got all the perks until I decided to change it.....I was just saying it's not fair that I work hard and get screwed. I may live paycheck to paycheck but I don't live outside my means.

Everyone should agree to disagree on this subject. If I told you what my Hubby and I made last year some would think we were "rich"...but let me tell you that we most certainly are not! It's funny, it seems no matter what you make there is always a bill for the money to go to.

We're torn. WE know we really need to put it into the bank for savings. My hubby's company is going through some rough times and there may be layoffs in the future. BUT we also have things we could spend it on:
Braces for the kid (pay up front rather than monthly payments - make it cheaper)
Get garage door fixed
New dishwasher
New clothes for me! - really it is a need huh!

WOw a little over-generalization there? I work. I work hard. I save lives for a living. I AM getting the $600. I am not sitting at home refusing to work or on welfare as you have stated above. Neither are other people on this forum that are receiving the "checks".
You ARE getting money, you just aren't happy with it. Please refrain from insulting the other members of the board (and the working public for that matter).
