Tonya, You said in the statement above that you owe the government tax money and you read everywhere that the government would keep your stimulus money if you owe taxes. You state right there that the government told you what it was going to do and it did it. How do you misread that? The government was very direct with its statement, you were the one who misinterpreted what you read. People misinterpret things all the time but I don’t see how you can be so mad at the government for that. If I planned on that money I would be disappointed in one aspect but hey, your taxes are now paid and you don't have to worry about 'em. At least be happy for that!

I said if you owe BACK taxes, not current taxes. That was what I had read and that's what I was told by not one but TWO different phone reps at the IRS. I never said I didn't owe anything, just that I didn't owe any back taxes. I even specifically asked the phone reps if by back taxes they were including 2007 or if it was just old money owed from before 2007 and they told me that back taxes would be anything owed before 2007. That if I had set up payment arrangements for my 2007 taxes, which I did, then I would get the rebate. I called and questioned them because my husband was questioning whether we'd get the rebate! Like I said before, I wasn't trying to get something for nothing, but it sure would have helped us a lot right now. I also never blamed the government for my money problems. With that statement, you put those words in my mouth.

Jeanie, thank you! Maybe I'm venting in the wrong place, but this thread is here and it seemed as good a place as any to vent.
Deb, like I think I said before somewhere on here, I admire you! I can't imagine doing what you are doing with three kids! I work two jobs and am trying to finish my degree (finally after almost 20 years!), but we don't have any children yet. If I had kids at home, no way could I get my homework done! You probably have a harder job than any of us who are currently in the workplace, being a single mom and going to school full time! That takes guts!

I guess I get from your tone and some of your commits that you are blaming the government for your current situation. You said, "no matter how hard I work, they just keep taking more and more from us." To me that is saying one can't get ahead because they (the government) keeps taking one's money therefore causing a bad financial situation for one's self. If I read that wrong I apologize but I don't see any other way to interpret it.
Also, I guess I would consider any taxes not paid on tax day as back taxes. Maybe that's not the correct assumption though. Luckily I've always been able to have everything paid by that date so I've never worried about it or looked into it. To me it's like any other bill. If your electric bill is due on the
15th of the month and you don't pay it's late. That's how I've always view taxes but maybe that's incorrect because the government works differently. It is a bad deal that you were told something different when you called it but that's where I came back to not counting your chickens. I've been burned enough times to have learned that lesson early I guess.

I absolutely agree there Dave. Back taxes are back taxes, no matter how it worded. I am not going to say much more on this subject because I will get FLAMED for what I would say.

If you read my original post, I DO pay my taxes. Every year, we owe the IRS money. We have changed our withholdings, we have had additional withheld, and no matter what we do we always owe the greedy mongers more and more money. Every year, we set up a payment plan and every year, we pay it off as promosed. DON'T sit there on your high horse and tell me I don't f*ing pay my bills. I work my a$$ off to pay my bills and no matter how hard I work, they just keep taking more and more from us. My bills get paid, they all get paid. I may not be able to afford to buy groceries but my other damn bills are paid. Maybe not always "on time", but always within the grace period and always paid in full. This is ridiculous! Why do I even bother trying to defend myself? People who have money can't understand what the rest of us go through on a monthly basis just to try to keep up. EVERYTHING that was published about this stupid so-called "stimulus" said that the only way you weren't getting it was if you owed back taxes. I spoke to two different people at the IRS and was told that no, if it was 2007 taxes we owed then it would not be deducted. The only thing that would be deducted were "back" taxes, if we owed taxes prior to 2007. We don't owe anything prior to 2007. WE PAID THEM ALREADY, hence WE PAY OUR TAXES! I'm sorry, you people just totally pissed me off. DON'T tell me I don't pay my taxes! If they were going to keep the stupid non-rebate, why did they mail us the paperwork to set up our payment plan, just like they do every year? Someone explain that one to me! We were skeptical, we originally thought we wouldn't get anything because we owed, but then we got all the paperwork for our yearly payment plan. Plus excuse me for believing what not one, but TWO different people AT THE IRS told me on the phone! I'm so mad right now I could spit nails. You people, on your high horse telling me that I don't pay my taxes. How dare you? What gives you the right to insult me like that? God, I can't even believe this is happening on here!

I can understand how you feel Tonya, about trying to get ahead but seems that you can't. You may want to consider getting a financial advisor to help you budget your money, there are several tools online as well.
I'm looking forward to getting my tax rebate check also, but...... you have to look at this like a gift, and would you ever belittle someone for how much or little of a gift they gave you? The Tax Rebate check may not of been the best solution to fix the economy (i would of prefered $2 gallon for gas for a year).
In closing... and I'm trying to bite my tongue on this so I dont get to irrate, so I will leave it at this... IF YOU DON'T LIKE AMERICA, AND ALL THE RIGHTS THAT OUR SOLDIERS HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED SO YOU CAN HAVE>>>>>>I'M SURE THERES SOME 3RD WORLD COUNTRY THAT WILL OPEN THIER BORDERS AND LET YOU IN>>>>> NO TAXES, NO FREEDOM OF RELIGION, NO AMENDMENTS..... SOUND GOOD?
Whewww..... Sorry

For those of you who can understand where I am coming from, thank you!
Duckie, I love you to death and I would never flame you. Heck, I would never intentionally flame anyone on this site. I love each and every one of you for the support you have given me and for all the support I have seen given in the time I've been here. This probably just goes back to those things you shouldn't discuss unless you want to start an argument, religion, politics, and taxes. LOL! Like I think I said before, if I wouldn't have been told by two different reps from the phone bank at that IRS that I would be getting the rebate, I wouldn't have expected it. I called once weeks ago and once just the other day, and both times I was told that I would be getting the rebate even though we owed for 2007. Heck, one of the first things we were planning to pay was the fee to set up the payment plan and the first of our monthly payments!
VickiLyn, there is a big difference between agreeing with our politicians and government and supporting our troops and being proud of living in the greatest country in the world! My grandfather fought and almost lost his life in WWII. My dad was in the Navy during Vietnam. My cousin and her husband were in Grenada and in Desert Storm and two of their sons have been in Iraq and Afghanistan. Actually, Benjamin just started serving his second tour in Iraq! Believe me, I love our troops for what they do for our country every day. I am one of the most patriotic people I know! I do not have to be a yes-person and support every decision the government makes in order to love my country and support our troops, there is a difference!
