I hate the IRS. In all the publicity about these stimulas rebates, it always says that you get your check in this first round if you file by April 15. That was a lie. You not only have to file but your return has to be posted by April 15. It takes approximately 30 days from the date you file for your return to be posted, and then it's a few weeks after that when you'll get the rebate. I am so screwed. I counted on getting this check as promised. Should have know not to take the promises of the government! Scumbags. DH and I have $30 to our name until he gets paid a week from tomorrow. That has to somehow buy gas for both cars and groceries. Forget being able to do anything nice for our mothers for Mother's Day. God, this sucks! I HATE being poor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Tricia. Yeah, I know there's not really anything anybody can say. We've just got to deal somehow. We'll figure it out, we always do. It's funny because every time we get in this situation, something always happens and some money drops in our laps from somewhere. I thought this time it was going to be the stimulus check, but no such luck.

Glad you got a chance to visit Asheville! It is beautiful here. I have been to the Biltmore House many many times and it always amazes me, there is always something new that I see. I wouldn't live anywhere else for the world! I absolutely love my mountains. Anyway, thanks for listening to me gripe! Hey, if we can't gripe here where else can we? LOL!

mine is actually going back to the economy. I had to trade in my ford f150 cause it was costing us (get this) $1000 a month to keep it on the road (between monthly payment and over $150 a week in gas) So I traded it in for a 2008 honda civic and put $2000 down in order to lower our monthly payment and they said they would give me 3 weeks to get the money to them so I am hoping mine comes sometime this week I am "scheduled" for may 9th so we shall see. By the way Honda is great I fill my new car up once a week and Its about $38. I love it. But we did take a big him on the F150 even Ford wouldnt give us much fo it!

Tonya not sure where you heard that. I filled my taxes in January but they go by the last 2 #'s in your SS number mine are 64 therefore i dont get mine (paper check) until June 27th! I personally NEVER would "count" on this check arriving on time or count it at all because you cant depend on the goverment. Thus i'm hoping to get some "free" money one day in June

What I had heard on the local news and read online was that if you filed by April 15 and requested the stimulus by direct deposit, you would receive your check in the first few weeks, by social security number of course. Until I spoke with the woman at the IRS number, I had never heard or read that your return had to "post", whatever that means, before you would receive your rebate. She said that it takes about 6 weeks from the date you filed. You return posts approximately 30 days from when you file and then it takes another two weeks to process the direct deposit. If you're receiving a paper check, it will be even longer. I searched the IRS site and all the automated options on their 800 number and never saw this information. After holding for over an hour, I finally spoke with a human being at the IRS and she gave me this information. She said that she had the same problem! She file April 14 thinking she would be good and then they found out that it takes a month to post. She works for the freakin' IRS and she didn't know! Ugh! Government! Anyway, I know it's free money and I shouldn't have counted on it, but we really were. Anyway, my husband is a genious and always finds a way to rob from Peter to pay Paul, so to speak, so we'll have gas and groceries until he gets paid. Yeah, Tim! Sorry about my earlier pity party but I just really needed to vent and this is as good of a place as any! I was having a really bad day at work and this bit of news definitely didn't help!

She must be wrong... we didn't file until the beginning of April and our Stimulus check was direct deposited on May 2nd....that's not 6 weeks. Maybe the money will come sooner for you too!

To post means to be processed through their system.. it's not enough that they have the paperwork on site, someone has to physically enter that paperwork into their information stream, usually by keying in the information into their database.

In my office, we do our postings in batches, and only after a batch is closed, can we cut checks. I'm sure with the IRS, the batches are closed on a fairly frequent basis.. Us, we often run batches over the course of a day or two.

Since you did yours online, you've done the keying of information into their system already, so it's a matter of getting that information from where it was entered to where the check can be cut or deposited and basically, its a matter of getting in line, like at a grocery store.. and waiting for your turn to come up.. some people's lines will go faster, and some people will get their checks sooner than others, because their location got X number of returns, vs. another location. (I hope that made sense!)

My cousin got his $600 yesterday (direct deposit) and his last two digits are 62. I also did direct deposit, and my last two are 03. I haven't got anything yet. I hope the government didn't forget me! When I did the online calculator it said I should get $600.

Anyone in a similar predicament?
