Default Really blew it today....

So I'll just give the stats:

Monday I was 131.4 lbs. This morning I was 128.2. So 3.2 lbs as of this morning. If it should be lower tomorrow, I would be shocked, but will still post it for those that are curious.

I was thinking today, isn't this a lot like Atkins when you first start? No sugar, no fruit, bread, pasta etc. The first stage where you're trying to reach ketosis? Any way, it was just a passing thought.

I know, I have learned a lot from this and will be doing it again. I was thinking of starting again on Monday but I will be adding protien shakes hopefully at least one a day once I go shopping tomorrow. Not sure what to buy, I do know that I should be getting a little more protien daily than I am. I also drink quite a bit more fluids when I do the water with crystal light and the orange flavor. My new favorite. I'm actually drinking more water/fluids than I usually do and less diet coke. Change will take time to kick the diet coke habit again. Also I am going to look for coffee cremers that have less calories. I didn't realize how many calories in my daily intake usually 3-4 cups. I'm also thinking of changing over to the 1/2 decaf then eventually to the decaf if not give it up completly. I didn't start drinking coffee until about 3.5 years ago. There are other things I've learned too. So all in all I don't think I failed, just failed to stay on the plan today. Well caved a little yeaterday. But now I will be more prepared for the next time.

I can NOT believe that I have only had 1 Diet Coke since Monday. I was up to 4 sometimes more a day and NO WATER. I have found with all the water I am drinking that I don't even think of Diet Coke. Thankfully!

5DPT DONE!

This wasn't too bad, except for the extreme need for Peanut Butter and Cheese early out. Barring the adulterous affair with the Fat Free Cool Whip on Days 2 and 3, I stuck to it.

I feel like I accomplished something, whether it was to re-christen my pouch or just break bad habits--it's over, and this is the result:

Monday Morning Weight: 256
Saturday Morning Weight: 252

I dropped 4 pounds! Absolutely awesome. I fluctuated during the week down as low as 250, but I've hovered at 252 for a couple of days now, even with all the protein I ate, and the virtual protein binge on Day 3.

I did not go to the gym on Wednesday or Friday. Wednesday I exercised at home some and mowed the yard. Friday we went to look at cars. I'll hit the gym tomorrow though.

I'm going to try to do at least one day a week, maybe two, of all liquids...perhaps Monday and Thursday. I did really well just doing fluids during the day and it wasn't hard. I got in just as much protein as I normally would when eating and I think it would be a good habit to get into.

While I don't eat a lot of carbs anyway since the surgery, I was extremely aware of "mindless" grazing that I've evidently gotten back into the habit of. Sure, it's a piece of cheese here or a protein bar there, but I noticed very quickly that when bored, I go looking for something to chew. Not being able to do that this week gave me a crystal clear view of that habit and I hopefully can be more cognizant of controlling it.

There were times when I felt the pouch over this week, but I'm not convinced that I "shrunk" it or that it's working any better than it was last week. I knew going into this that the pouch test isn't about weight loss, but better habits, and that's exactly what I was shown. My pouch didn't shrink, I didn't lose 25 pounds, and I didn't grow breasts on my back. The test, like the pouch, is just another tool--but it's one I feel like worked quite well in tandem with the pouch, and I'd certainly do it again. (Just as soon as I'm done with this jar of peanut butter sitting here beside me.)

All in all--a good week.

Thanks to everyone for the support and commiseration! How awesome is it that we can meet online and do this kind of stuff?

-Mike

Talking Century!!!!!!!!!!!

The pouch test was just what I needed. I had really started eating lots of carbs. Carbs are what has derailed every diet I have ever undertaken and I was starting to eat them with reckless abandon. I was down as low as 248, but gained a couple pounds back and have been hovering there for months. My one year anniversary is coming up at the end of May, so I really wanted to get back on track.

The first few days the carb cravings were pretty strong. I caught myself, literally, reaching for things and had to stop and remind myself about the test. I am proud to say that I did not crack at all during the five days.

When I started eating soft and solid proteins, I definitely felt my pouch again. Total food volume was not even half of what it has been lately, because I got uncomfortably full. I was still "hungry" but it was mostly head-hunger.

I made it to the gym three days and just walked around the track there. I found that I went to bed early every day to avoid thinking about food. By the end of the week, my carb cravings had reduced a lot and I realize (well...actually I "remember") that I just can't have the carbs in the house. Most of my cravings were triggered when I saw things that looked good.

So I would say the pouch test was very effective for me. Jane is going to start it this weekend and I am going to do it with her for support. In addition to breaking the carb addiction (or at least bending it pretty good) I got a few more benefits...unlike others here, my gas problem went away! I now know that carbs are what was causing it. That has been the only difficult part of post-surgery life for me, so this is a big motivation to avoid carbs.

And the biggest bonus is that I reached the CENTURY mark!!! (Insert happy dance here)

I have now lost over 100 pounds since surgery and am only 15 pounds from goal! I started at 250.5 pounds on Monday morning. This morning, I weighed exactly 240.5 pounds. I lost 10 pounds! That is 106 pounds since surgery and 189.5 from my peak weight!!

Thanks for getting this challenge started, Cindy!!

Same Squishy...in a new, smaller, environmentally friendly package!

I can't even believe the damage I left in my wake this week.

By the way...I made it through due in part to Schwan's Salmon filets! (They are so good!)

Congrats, buddy!

I resemble that remark! I know this is not a confessional, but I feel I need to put it down in writing for my own "healing". If I told you what I have been eating for the past year you would be shocked that I had not gained back at least 50lbs. or even more. I was at the point where I NEVER took a sip of water, ate chocolate at my desk ALL day, ate Cheeze-its the second I walked in the door (and A LOT of them), had the dinner that I had planned for the family and then ate dessert and that is not counting all the other snacking that I didn't even think about.

This week was honestly a lot easier then I thought it was going to be. I did not stray from the plan once. I was sick for part of it and I am hoping that that did not have anything to do with the lack of appetite. I guess I will find out the next time I do the test. I did get on the scale every day...like I said I wasn't going to...but I'm okay with it! The scale never dissapointed me...thankfully! I believe my weight loss was FANTASTIC...but I also believe that I had some water retention going on from all the c-rap I was eating prior to the test. I'm going into next week with a plan. I'm not doing the test again just yet, but I am going to eat mostly the plan way adding in some string cheese and still cutting out the Diet Coke and downing the water! I am really excited that the 5DPT has inspired me to use my tool. Thank you all for doing it with me! Coming here and reading everyones posts every day kept me motivated. If I need to I will re-read these posts next week to stay strong.

OHHH...last night I went on my normal weekly grocery shopping trip and had the BIG box of Cheeze-its in the cart...two isles later I thought "what the hell are you doing"...and stuck them on a random shelf (sorry box boy guy, had to do it).

Sooo, here are my stats:

Monday Weigh In: 194
Saturday Weigh In: 186

8 POUNDS IN 5 DAYS!! I have not lost that much in 5 days since March 2006. I know this test was not to lose weight but I am soooo happy.
