Thanks for the link to view this segment of the show. I thought it was very good, finally showing WLS in a GOOD light. I know it's changed my life and couldn't be happier!

Wow ... that was very informative, thanks for the link.
When I had the surgery 6 weeks ago, it was either that or go on insulin. My diabetes had gotten so bad that all my oral meds just stopped working. I absolutely couldn't deal with the thought of giving myself shots everyday when I knew I could improve my health by having surgery. Right before surgery my blood glucose was always over 300 and that was WITH all the pills I was on (2,000 mg. Glucophage and 8 mg. Avandia everyday). Right after surgery it dropped to 180 WITHOUT the pills. 4 days after surgery it dropped to 130 WITHOUT the pills. I checked myself this morning as I always do, and it was 106. I am no longer Diabetic, but I continue checking my blood glucose levels "just to make sure" ... it's just unbelievable that my struggle with this disease is over. It does feel too good to be true. But thank goodness it IS true!

I'm 12 weeks out tomorrow.. and my BG are really good in the AM- 80's & 90's mostly.. occasional 100, but very low 100's.. once I start eating food.. even low carb food, my numbers still go up into the 150's and 160's.. so I'm still diabetic at this point. I keep hoping.

Just curious.. do you check your BG 1 hour postprandial and 2 hour postprandial anymore or just the one in the AM?
My BG numbers are in the high 80's & 90's in the AM.. but my BG will go up to the 150's and 160's 1HPP & 2HPP still, so my doc has me still giving 30 units of Lantus every night before bed.

Thanks Rebecca.. you too, once you've had the surgery...
Yes, I'm on lantus only.. but I typed that wrong.. it's 30 units, not 20.. I'll have to go edit it..
I used to be on orals only, until the surgery.

Yeah..I remember u saying that u had only been on oral before. I hope that you don't mind me "following" you...I am very interested in ridding diabetes with the surgery, if I have the surgery. I take Lantus at night and NovaLog before meals. I was taking Metformin and Glyburide before I switched over to insulin in January.
Have u tried to go back to oral meds since the operation? I see (on diabetic websites) that some ppl take both oral meds and insulin shots.
This morning I weighed 209, (I think that makes my BMI 35.9) up from 192 in Jan when I began insulin.

Yes ... I have been checking more than once a day. I was checking more often in the days after surgery than I do now though. The highest my glucose levels get is about 1 hour after I have my protein shake and that is about 120. And that is probably because I add 4 ounces of yogurt and 1/2 a banana to my shake ... kinda sweet. And before I go to bed it's 90-100, so I usually eat a Babybel cheese before I turn in. I actually keep such a close eye on it still because I'm afraid it might go TOO low.
I really hope yours stablizes soon ... believe me, I understand the frustration that goes along with being diabetic.
