Default Awful! Let's pray for this person.

Here's link to a story on Fox News website about a lady who had GBS and then contracted the human equivalent of Mad Cow disease, which is untreatable and which has no known cure. (This turn of events was in no way related to the type of surgery she had - so don't freak out if your pre-op. This was basically just a fluke accident.) But my heart goes out to her. I am sure she thought her life was just beginning. So sad.

We should keep this young lady and her family in our prayers!

I just read that she passed away. So sad. Surgery always has risks unfortunately.

My grandmother died from that same disease last summer. She went in for surgery and the day after she couldn't talk she was talking but it was gibberish. I said gram are you having a hard time talking and she shook her head. She understood but couldn't communicate. Then the uncontrolable shaking started. We had to be her voice and demanded tests. Well she passed away a few days later. She was cremated per her request. The doctor suspected CJD and sent out labs to the CDC. Well the day after funeral we got the test back and they were positive. The CDC wanted to do a brain biopsy but it was already to late. We will never know how she got it. There is a hereditary form of these and we will never know if it runs in the family.

I have been following this story because my heart goes out to this family. This is something that I never want anyone to have to experience. It is a horrific disease that needs to have more attention brought to it. On one of the posts for this story I read where there must have been at least 30 people who have lost someone to this. How can they say it is a 1 in a million chance of getting it. Sorry to carry on but this has brought back so many emotions that I thought I was over.

My Grandmother played a huge role in raising me and I miss her everyday.

Kim, I'm so sorry! I can feel the pain in your posts. I knew of the hereditary version as I work with children. This is a sad, horrible disease.
Hugs Kim.
