Easy way out? I think not.
I hear so many things about how people say surgery is the easy way out to those that have had it done. But you know what I don't understand? Even if this surgery were "the easy way out"...I know it's not, but even if IT WAS...what is wrong with the easy way? When you are driving your kids to school, and there are two possible ways to drive, which do you take? The EASIER, faster, and shorter one of course, right? And when you're making your chicken for dinner, you pull a pan out of the drawer and put it on the stove, right? That is the easy way, rather than putting the chicken in an ice chest, putting it in the car, driving the long way to the furthest camp ground, building a fire, and roasting it there. Do you see what I mean? What is wrong with easy? We do things the easy way, everyday. I know this surgery isn't the easy way out, and all of that, but why do people think easy is fine until it comes down to weight loss? Does this make any sense?

A lot of times I really think it comes down to either they are scared of what they don't understand or they want the *easy way out* too but can't have it for some reason. So rather than be happy for those who can they do what the can to make you feel like crap and build themselves up.

What a SOUND argument for those people who do say this is the "easy way out". So what if it is...if it is, why aren't they trying it??? If it's so easy, why isn't everyone doing it?? Why isn't Jenny Craig out of business and Weight Watchers stuggling to find members?? Very good points Laura...Very nice insight!

I've been wanting to say it for a while, but I didn't know if it would make any sense. Glad it did.

Great post!
Good for you! I agree completely! If this surgery was EASY I'd HATE to see what HARD is.....LOL. HARD would kill you.
The people who think it's easy are either ignorant or jealous....maybe both. WE know the truth....we have lived through it. Keep your chin up and KNOW that you have probably done the hardest thing you'll ever do...and be proud. You have saved your own life!

Even being obese, I was one of the ones who for years thought this was the "easy way out." I kept telling myself I needed to try "one more time" again and again, before I would ever consider taking the easy road. I honestly never really gave it much thought until after a very close friend had the surgery. My husband's first comment was "when are you going to do it?" He wasn't totally serious, but that started me thinking - and researching and asking questions.
This is by far NOT the easy road, but it is the path that I have chosen.

My thoughts exactly!
While the argument is truly a sound one, I don't think we have to validate ill-informed and ridiculous people who even suggest that this was easy. And if they are jealous, it is truly their problem.
