I almost forgot to mention: While shopping in the stores in mexico if they ask if you are from a cruise ship, say NO! Tell them you are staying at one of the hotels in Cozumel (gotta look up some names). I am told they charge the cruise ship passengers WAY MORE than the people that are staying there. Just an FYI from friends that have stayed in Mexico many times and have been told this by shopkeepers.

Yes, Duckie, that does work! I can speak from personal experience! My sweet hubby tried to buy me a tanzanite ring and they quoted him an outrageous price for it after telling them he was from the cruise ship. I went back in and got it for less than half of what they quoted him. He just can't lie. Hey, to save $200 bucks, I'm not above it little fib!

Question for the seasoned travelers. What should I do about $$? Should I bring my debit card? (Are their ATMs on the ship?) Do I bring travelers checks? Do we exchange for other currency while on ship or at dock or do they usually take american $$ at the ports. I have NO CLUE what to do about $$.

I have been on several cruises. While you are on the boat they give you a sea card which is linked to a credit card you can provide or cash that you can put down at the start of the cruise. You do not use any cash while on the boat except at the casino. As far as shopping off the boat- I use a major credit card or USA funds- never a fan of using my bank card off the boats-
Have a great time!!! dont forget to bargain with the knock off's sales in purses- if you go in to a shop tell them how much for a bag for you and your friend if you are both going to buy one.

I don't have any credit cards, only a debit card. I wouldn't have a choice in the matter. I've tried those prepaid ones and they are a PITA... they will overcharge stuff.. then put $$ back onto the card. You never know how much $$ you actually have on them. I tried one when I went to Disney and it was a FIASCO. (And I got it at AAA!)

I generally don't travel with much cash - maybe $250. There are ATM's all over the place - on the ship, in the ports, etc. You can even get cash in the Purser's office. The only time you will need cash is when you are in ports, if you buy from a street vendor, and also for any odds and ends while traveling, etc., like tipping the skycap.
A debit card is clearly as good as a credit card.

Got my TT Sun Visor yesterday. WOO HOO!
I went shopping yesterday but wasn't too successful in finding much in the way of cruise appropriate clothes. But I'm not stressing over it - if I need anything, I'll get it during the trip.
