Default Restaurant Idea

Ok so... very few places I've ever eaten pre-op gave you anywhere near the proper proportion of food. They always give you 2500 calories of food smothered in a sauce or a gravy with an extra 1,000 calories in an oversized dessert.

Weight Loss is one of the biggest 'markets' in advertising these days. People are looking for a pill, cream, diet, etc. to get slimmer - but they don't really want to change how they're eating... and these restaurants aren't helping.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a restaurant where they specifically designed a menu that offered 'complete' meals at proper portion sizes?

I think there is an amazing opportunity here... and in the right hands we could give people great tasting meals and they can eat it and know they didn't overload.

1) Does something like this exist?

2) Your thoughts?

You might want to try Applebee’s they have a weight watchers menu that looks like appropriate size portions but they are still to big for WLS patients. I don’t think restaurants would ever go back to a regular size portion because people want more for their money and seeing a lot of food makes them happy.

But don't you think the tide is turning?

Why pay $14.95 for a huge meal that you won't eat all of when you can get a proper portion of a meal for $3.99 and be able to clear your plate without feeling guilty?

I was thinking the same...people enjoy having LOTS of food....the only reason we as GBS don't is because it would KILL me to eat it!

I think that the tide is turning for alot of people...but the majority still want ALOT of food! But if a place could stay in business charging that amount per dinner...I for one would LOVE that option!

Default Restaurants and Portions

Tooley,
Excellent point you make and American's are very tuned into value and amount they bring on the plate.
Here in Europe many ristorante serve proper portions and in my city of Portland, Oregon before I moved a couple years ago I was finding more and more restaurants that we going with more proportional meals, Italian, Northwest cousine, Asian and even some of the chain restaurants offering light portions servings, the thing is that being a great concept I business is there to earn the profit and if they charge the 3.99 how much profit comes to a restaurant that counts on people sitting at their tables.
Even though personally I think we will not see priced change, I think we will begin seeing better proportional sizes being placed on the plates, as people are becoming more and more aware of the large sizes of meals.
But I like your idea and concept and you should consider starting a restaurant in your local area that is health minded, as people today are moving to a more healthy way of eating and living.
Keep your thoughts coming.
