Thanks everyone. I just picked up the yarn to make one for my dad for his birthday. He is a guy that has everything so he's getting and afghan and a self adjusting wrench. lol Wish me luck! It's going to be in off white and light sage... to match the living room in FL.

Wow Duckie!
If your first attempt at crochet is this great, just imagine your nursing skills! I believe I would be in the safest of hands! Well done and happy continuation!
I live with a ball of yarn and crochet in my handbag, always at the ready: on the bus, during a car journey, chatting with friends, in a waiting room...
Happy days!
Cheers!

My moms husbands mom was one who would constantly crochet, and she also had boxes of blankets and afghans that she didn't know what to do with. She finally started to donate the baby ones to hospitals to give to new moms, and she gave the bigger ones to old-folks homes for the elderly to have something made with love. It blessed both sides So if you have extras and your families won't take any more blankets...theres an idea for ya

I figure I can always make blankets for the kids of all sizes at work. They have lots of donations through the "Linus Project" that collects blankets made by people (mostly ladies with nothing to do in senior centers), the slap a little linus project tag on them and donate them to the children's hospitals.

OH, and I started dad's afghan last night.

Duckles,
My Mom crochets and my daughter knits. I just got 2 Cashmere wool scarves (8 feet long each) very cool from my Mom. That is a great hobby which you can provide people with alot of joy. (PS I asked Mom for long scarves, that way I can can do all the fancy European scarf stuff). The Cashmere wool is great. I am so spoiled!

Just find a good local yarn store or go online. It is great, especially for a scarf. I lubs me some cashmere! For the last few years I buy SWMBO a Cashmere sweater at Christmas.
