Default Expecting these little guys in 2-3 weeks

Rufous hummingbirds.

These are the highlight of my year cause I know that spring is just around the corner.

The males come in March to establish their stomping ground and the girls follow about 4 weeks later.

This little guy came into the house several times - he was absolutely gorgeous. They defend their territory with a passion - I called him Adolph!

Corinne, I was thinking something similar yesterday. Not too may hummingbirds in my neighborhood, but when I hear the male cardinals start their song, I know Spring is around the corner. They are getting their bright red mating plumage now. I stand on my deck, and can hear them trading songs from the four points of the compass. Spring is really here when my snowbirds (juncos) dissappear from the backyard. Another couple weeks and I'll be able to do my birdfeeder spring cleaning!
There is absolutely nothing that goes better with the morning coffee or tea than birdsong on a soft Spring day!
BTW- that is a gorgeous little friend you have there!

I took it Katie - I already had the camera draped around my neck - I collect Victorian pennies (English) and was trying to photograph some when in came Adolph (again). He just sat on the window looking at me.

As I got to the door, the sun caught his gorget (flashy throat) so I took a quick snap.
