Random post-op thoughts and observations
1. I find that watching people stuff their faces with fast food absolutely repulses me. Seeing them shovel fries in their mouth without even chewing, or gorging on pizza without even taking a moment to taste what they're eating makes me sick. One day I walked past a McDonald's and nearly threw up from the smell of the grease in the air. Why wasn't I repulsed before the surgery?
2. I see people out and about who are obviously morbidly obese and want to go "suggest" they look into surgery. It hurts me to see them struggle as I did, knowing how depressed and helpless they feel. I've managed to talk close friends and family into looking at this surgery, but I don't think it right to approach complete strangers, nor none of my business.
3. Like many here, I've noticed that my overweight friends and family don't come around as much anymore, which I assume is because they don't want to hear me preach about losing weight. Oddly enough, they were always preaching to me. What gives?
4. My family has completely changed their eating habits without so much as a word. I think they see me eating my 3-4 oz of food and either feel bad for me, or realize they overate as much as I did. Either way, they are all getting healthier. So, in retrospect, maybe this surgery wasn't just for me.
Anybody else care to share their newfound thoughts and observations?

WOW David - I could have written this post myself - apart from no 3 I have had exactly the same experience.... especially no 1 & 2
I've never understood peoples' source of inspiration when it comes to preaching on street corners or town squares but now I feel like I could do the same - just about WLS

I have to agree with Gwen on this one David. You have said SO much the thoughts and feelings I have had. Personally my thoughts echo yours 100%. I think many of those feelings will be shared by others who read this thread. It's kind of a comfort to me to know that others here understand.

Get out of my brain!!!
Hey, you are not suppose to be in there. I find myself just today, when people commit on how I look now breaking out my surgeons card and referring people to him. I used to be so offended by people doing this to me that I need to slap myself daily for wanting to do it to others. But I see now that others were only trying to help me years ago, if I would have only listened then. I guess we live and learn. I just need the self control. I look at my sis in law who is somewhat skinny, and when she eats 5 double decker tacos from taco bell, I think it will only catch up to her one day, and how can she conceive eating that much at one sitting. To be honest she eats way more than I ever did before surgery, and now I really notice how much more she consumes. We are talking 9 pieces of bacon, 3 eggs, grits and 4 pieces of toast for breakfast. That is heart attack waiting to happen. But she thinks because she is skinny it doesnt matter to eat healthier. I guess she will find out the hard way like the rest of us did. Great post Davey!!!

I agree, however I want to say one thing.
Not everyone is cut out for weightloss surgery. Not every overweight person has what it takes for the life long changes we have to make. To suggest everyone who is overweight should consider surgery is scary. I mean, there are some people who don't take care of themselves even after surgery the way they should and end up paying for it in the end w/ their lives. So just be careful who you might suggest this option too. Thats all i wanted to say.

Just last week while drinking some coffee, I watched in horror as an overweight child all of maybe 8 or 9 attacked TWO Big Macs at McDonalds. This included some fries and a drink. All I could think of was this poor child was gonna face a life of obesity and unhappiness all caused by her eating habits now...and obviously her parents willingness to let her gorge herself like that. Made me feel physically ill to watch her gulp down the food....
On another note....I work with 3 other women who were happy for my weight loss until I started to get below the smallest one. Now I keep quiet about my clothes size and weight. I can no longer share that I'm close to a size 8 pants or 13 pounds from my goal. In effect, I feel alone at work. (thank goodness for TT!)

You are so right!
Yes harley, you are right. I just get excited and I feel for people just like they used to feel for me. That's why I said I must learn to control myself. I know that this surgery is not for everyone. I have a friend that said she was so interested in this surgery, so I gave her info months ago, but she was not ready for those life changes. She has several other friends that has had the surgery also. This is what happened the other day, speaking of how some people just can't make those life changes. This friend that I gave the info to called me. She said hi, and some small talk, then said I would like to take you out for some ice cream. I was kind of shock, and said you know I had the surgery and I can't eat that kind of stuff anymore. She said to me "Really" why?? I told her I can't have any sugar or nothing more than 2g of sugar. She said wow, all my other friends that had the surgery eat ice cream, cookies, cake, whatever they want every day. I told her that may be, but that is why their tool no longer works for them and that is why they are not losing that much or complaining that they are gaining back. I told her I did not go through all this for nothing. I want my life back. So yes this surgery is definitely not for everyone and then even some that do have it, don't work it the way they should!!!!!
