Ghost stories
I always enjoy a good ghost story and want to share a few with you all. Please feel free to post your own as well.
Back in the early 90's, I worked in the Computer Room of the County hospital. Arriving on the first day of work, I found my co-worked sitting in a chair outside the room. I asked her why she was sitting out there, was it too cold inside? She told me no, this place is strange, I hear things and I don't like being in there alone. I wasn't a big believer at the time, so I shrugged it off. Several months passed, and a older woman came to work with me. She was a nice lady, we shared some things in common and we got along quite well. After a few weeks of getting to know each other, she told me she could see a man standing next to me. I was like, what? There's no one here. She said this room used to be the morgue, and that he visits us often. I was trying to stay cool, but she really freaked me out. So, we were doing tape backups and I went to place a new tape on the tape drive, took the old one off, put it's strap on, and walked over to place it on the rack. I walked away and the tape came off the rack. I though, okay, I didn't lock the strap all the way, and put it back on. I turned and looked at her and she just smiled. I asked her what she was smiling about, and she told me he knocked the tape off the rack. So, now the hair is standing up on the back of my neck, but I'm still trying to maintain. Next tape is done and I repeat racking the tape. I turn and walk away and about four feet from the rack, I get hit solid in the back with a tape. No way this could have fallen, this was thrown. I freaked. I left the room and didn't go back that day. So this woman, and I believe that on the path of life you meet people for a certain reason, becomes more intertwined in my life than I realize, leading into story two.
I live in a part of town that used to be orange groves. Sharecroppers used to pick the oranges and lived in little houses on the spot that I currently live. This woman that I worked with, her family sharecropped and lived a little bit down from where I am, and she spent her childhood here. When I first moved to this area, I rented the house next door. My neighbor across the street came over and asked me if I noticed anything strange in the house. I thought it was a weird question to ask, but I told her no, nothing unusual. She said that our area was haunted by a little boy, and that his ghost came to visit her son when he was around 8-9 years old. I thought, okay, I'll keep that in mind. So, a year passes, and one night, I'm sitting in the family room. My three boys at the time were 11,9, and 7. Everyone is asleep but me. Just watching some oldie movies. I hear a bedroom door slam. I get up and go back, and all the doors are open and the kids are sound asleep. I'm kinda freaked, but I figure I just imagined it, and back to my movie. Ten minutes later, the same thing happens. Check the doors, all open, kids asleep. I feel something brush past me, and of course, I'm spooked. I decide it's time for bed. My wife used to poo-pah this kind of thing, so I never shared it with her. The kids from time to time would say they saw something, but I tried not to bring life to it, so they weren't constantly worried about it.
So, the opportunity to buy the house next door comes and we do it. My fourth son arrives a year after we move in. Nothing happens for his first four years, but as year five comes around, my son has a speech development issue that he saw a therapist for. He was very hard to understand for awhile and made his personality very shy. One night, as I was checking on him before I went to bed, I came upon his room and he was asleep, but engaged in a conversation with someone, and his speech was perfect. He said things like, I promise I won't tell my dad you've been playing cars with me, and such. I got my wife out of bed to hear it and she couldn't believe it. For months after that, he would talk endlessly after being put to bed, and in his sleep. And then it stopped. Until about a year ago. My wife and I were in bed, and I rolled over, and was awake, and I hear what I thought was my youngest standing next to the bed saying "Mommy..are you awake?". There was no one there. I nudged my wife awake, and she heard him repeat it. She jumped about a foot out of bed. Now she believed me. Since then, lots of things have happened, footsteps, our radio gets turned off and on, my son sees the boy from time to time, things get moved, etc. He seems harmless.
So, back to my co-worker. She lived such a tragic life. Her son was the Army soldier who was dragged through the streets during the war in Somalia, as biographed in the movie Blackhawk Down. I hadn't seen her for years until a chance meeting at a local library. I saw her, hugged her, and we shared news of our lives. I started to tell her about the little boy, and she interrupts and says "so, you met Michael?". Nothing she says surprises me anymore. She told me Michael was a childhood friend of hers who died from tuberculosis at the age of 8, and has been haunting my neighborhood since then. He visits with any family who moves in who have small children and then move on when they grow older.

wow.. spooky but lovely at the same time
When I first left home and rented my own flat, i was working shifts and when I was on earlies had to get up at 5am. You know how that goes, the alarm goes off and you put the snooze button on for a few.. and every morning that I was on that shift, when I'd get up the kettle had already been filled and boiled so the water was hot ready for me to make tea. I never found out anything about who was doing it but there was an old lady living in the flat who had died before I moved in. I like to think she was very kind

I love ghost stoies too. I watch all kinds of shows on paranormal activity. I don't have any personal stories to add, but I do love to hear others experiences.

I grew up in a house that was an older house. My parents decided to do some research on the history of the house after we would find marbles in the oddest places (a closet that was just cleaned out, a newly built and vacant room, etc). Turns out that there was a very sick little girl who lived there. We couldn't determine whether or not she died there, but we do know from talking to the older neighbors that she experienced the greatest happiness there. Which is why she liked me There were sooooo many marbles in my room!
Anyways - we moved from there, and it was very hard on me because I grew up in that house. So when it was empty I went back in to sort of say my goodbyes (strange how we get attached to a house). I sat on the living room floor...and out of no where a marble rolls toward me. I still have that marble.....

I too love ghost stories!
I used to live in an 85 year old farm house that had ghosties! I would hear conversations in this one room of the house, but could never understand what was being said, but knew there were SEVERAL voices involved. Initially I thought it was a radio left on low...until one time it was SOOO loud that I checked the radio...went outside the bedroom window to see if I could hear it from there, I couldn't. But it was definitely in that one room! That's when I realized that the house had ghosties. Before I realized that it was ghosties my 3-4 year old step son complained to his mom that he was afraid of "Casper" (aka Casper the Ghost??) at our house...he never mentioned anything to his Dad and I so didn't think much of it. But then when my son was around 2-3 (there is almost a 6 year age difference between son and step-son) my son was scared to go to sleep sometimes at night...I asked him why and he said because of the man and pointed to the corner of the room where I always heard voices. I asked my son what does the man say to you and he said that "he's just looking at me" and when I asked what he looked like my son said "He's blue"??? Strange I know but I think it may have been an aura of sorts...not sure! So I stayed with my son until he fell asleep. Then the next day when my son was at preschool I sat down on the bed and "spoke" to this gentleman explaining that I realize he doesn't mean to scare my son...but he does...and if you would not show himself to my son because it scares him. My son never complained about it again. But I did find out that there was a man that had died in the back yard many, many years ago.
It took me so long to even realize that it was haunted...but it was something I just excepted...though to this day my hubby doesn't believe me. We had lived in this house for 8 yrs and he never heard anything! It never scared me...for some reason it was just something I accepted.
And another non-ghost story is when I was younger (12-13) I was talking to my mom about a place we had visited when I was younger, but couldn't remember when, why, or where it was. I described in detail the victorian style store and "board-walk", just couldn't remember when or why I had been there. My mom told me that what I described was a place her and her mother had been BEFORE I was born. Of course we argued (good-naturedly) about it...she showed me a picture they had taken that included them both...and I'm like yeah that's it and went on to tell her other details. She told me that I must have HEARD them talking about it at some time in my life...I don't know...maybe...
PS~ And NOOOOO I am not a freak! Well, I AM a freak but not because of that! LOL

My story,
When I was growing up my parents would take all us 8 kids to visite my grandparents in Canada (Verchere). I loved going there because my father would stay in the United States and we found peace for a couple of weeks at a time till he came to visit for the weekend. In anycase when my grandmother had gotten old my mother would take us by boat to an island accross the st. lawrence river. On the island was an old house with no electricity or running water. She would stay there with us for a few days and then she'd go back to the mainland and stay with my grandmother. During our stay on this island we often heard strange things in that house. At night we'd walk up to the 2nd floor with candle in hand only to have it blown out when we got to the top of the stairs. Strange, even on a calm night with no wind blowing outside. AT the top of the staires to the left there was a door that opened to an attick and to the right was an open room with 4 beds. one window with wooden shutters. After going to bed one night my sister and I arguing about something or other and then we heard the sound. Foot steps coming up the wooden stairs. I called out to my brother who was expected to return that evening from the mainland, "Dennis! that's not funny!". Susan called out to my cousin, "Jerry! if that's you, you're not fooling anyone!". I lay still in my bed listening to the sounds increasing in intensity. I was so frightened, I pulled the covers over my head and started to shake, holloring for my mother, "Mom! someones comming up the stairs!" My mom didn't answer. "Mom!" my sister yelled. "Janine, Look!" "I'm scared" I told her. She said, "Look!" so I pulled the cover off my head and looked toward the staircase and this film/shadow thing reached the top othe stairs opened the attick door and shut it behind it. I leaped out of my bed and into my sisters where we slept together from that night. We were so scared... After that we tried to make our dog go upstairs before we did. On the 2nd or 3rd night the dog yelped... cried and turned around and ran back down the stairs and we followed. Our dog went under the wicker chair shaking, big eyed looking scared as I have ever seen him. My sis and I looked at one another and refused to go back up there. We eventually did though. Getting into bed... covering ourselves with our blankets and hoping for the best.
Another time...
My aunt had her dog with her and she spent the night up there. She shaired the big bed with my older sister. I stayed in the house on the mainland. When they came back they sure had a story to tell...
During the night for some reason the mirror on top of the dresser filled with standing nail polish remover and makup decided to lift off of it's nail landing on the floor face up. Not a thing was moved on the dresser, not a thing out of place or broken or fallen. The mirror did not break either.. The dog was so scared she yelped and jumped on the bed for dear life. After that insident she (the dog) would not return to the upstairs room. She too ran under the wicker chair until she had a chance to get outside. Once outside she refused to re-enter the house. Very strange...
I remember waking up in the middle of the night... that particular night I left the window shutters open because I was warm.. I woke up to seeing a man in tattered clothing standing at the foot of my bed. He was just looking at me, standing there in his plaid (red) long sleeved shirt and overalls. the overalls were baggy and only one strap was hooked his shirt was old and torn. He had gray/white hair and wrinkled skin. He stood there like he leaned over toward me and when I saw him he stood up. I don't know what he was doing or why he was there. I was so scared... when I took a deep breath he disapeared (faded away). After that night I began to tuck my bed spread and sheets in under the mattress. I didn't like the look of this man and I never saw him again. But I heard him that's for sure.
The boys and men in our home never heard or saw it. It was so strange and they didn't believe a word we said about this spirit. My mother was skeptical untill she decided to sleep in the bedroom at the foot of the stairs. She said she heard things she could not explain. The back door would open and shut next to the room and she heard the walking and some of the noise coming from the attick. She didn't tell us about this till we were grown. She couldn't explain it but she understood.
over the years I've had many sightings and feelings that were unexplainable I don't know why I have this 6th scent but it's with me.
Too many stories to post at once.
