If you really knew me....... (Part II)
In 2006, Van started this great thread, I think, as a means for those who were then active on the Forum to get to know each other better, and I suppose, as a vehicle for those that felt they needed to get rid of (or rather confess to) some emotional bagage:
If you really knew me..... (don't read it now - come back to read it later, otherwise you might be guided in your answer)
NB: Just a reminder: Don't give away too much personal information, the TT Forum is open to anybody "lurking" and let's keep it lighthearted, if possible.
So, "If you really knew me, you would know ..... "
1. that I grew up as part of a very large extended (mine/yours/ours) family, and that I was the one, from about the age of 5/6, at family gatherings (which happened almost every weekend ), "in charge" of the little ones, my nieces/nephews (my older brothers' and sister's children)......
2. that this turned me into, what other people perceive as, "The Bossy One" - I call it my "honed organizational skills"....
3. that for the above reason (growing up with all these children around me), but not solely for the above reason, I have chosen (for the foreseeable future at least ) NOT to have children - and HWHO (my version of Jim's SWMBO and translated into He Who Happily Obeys) concurs with this decision - who knows what the future holds and I'm not saying "never" - that is a very long time....
4. that my Mother told me from a very young age that "attitude determines altitude" and that that, together with watching the movie Pollyanna at about the age of 8/9, I believe, has turned me into a very-happy-go-lucky-glass-is-always-half-full-kinda-girl.... (thanks Mom)
5. that my Dad told me that "if you tell people first, then there is nothing for them to gossip about" - so now I live with my heart on my shoulder, I'm a bad liar and I'm an open book....(thanks Dad)
6. that my Mother also taught me that "I could do anything I wish, as long as I was willing to carry the consequences" - this goes from little girl fantasies like spending my "hard earned and many months saved" pocket money on that special doll, to young woman adulthood decisions, like giving up my job in 2005 and taking a 6 month sabbatical to travel through Europe - so far this philosophy has worked for me :-) I came back to find that many of my former colleagues had been made redundant and I was fortunate enough to secure an even better job....
Come on Peeps - let's get to know each other......

If you really knew me....
you would know that I pretend not to care what others think but privately crave acceptance.
That when I gain acceptance I don't really realize that I have been accepted.
That I absorb negative energy more then I absorb positive energy and despite my desire to change this, it's built deep into me.
That I wear my heart on my sleeve. Ask me anything and I'll tell you. I cry easily. I laugh easily. I cannot hide my emotions. You can read my face easily.
There is a woman whos forgiveness I need and it will be years yet before I know.
I'm sure theres much more.....

lol sure i'll be a gemini for you.
As this thread grows I think we are all going to relate to each other. Being overweight tends to install certain aspects of our personalitys.
A few others:
I'm overprotective of Ashton. I don't want him to grow up This is not a good thing,
I'm terrified of anything happening to him. If he goes, I go too! I'm DEADserious.
Sometimes, I am a slacker mom.
I do not want to get married.
I DO NOT WANT TO GO BACK TO WORK ON SUNDAY
I am lazy (ouch! but true)

If you really knew me...
...You'd know that I am WAY deeper than you might think.
...You'd know that my sense of self-importance is often undermined by my sense of compassion.
...You'd know that my temper flares when I am angry, but I'm not a screamer.
...You'd know that I once shoplifted (and got caught) at Disneyworld...(a lifetime ago...haven't done anything like that since...)
...You'd know that I'm telling the truth about being in a Julia Robert's movie...
...You'd know that sometimes I just want to be alone, but am afraid of loneliness itself.
...You'd know that our baby Lily is the most wonderful gift God has ever given us. (My wife and I...)
...You'd know that I'd secretly like to live in Gloucester, Massachusetts, right on the ocean, and do nothing but play and write all day.
...You'd know that I was an Eagle Scout.
...You'd know that I want those around me to be proud of me, and likewise, I want to be proud of myself.
...You'd know that when I was little, I used to write Dolly Parton letters asking her if I could come and live with her.
...You'd know that I'm a "one chance man." I don't like being taken advantage of.
...You'd know that if I say it, then I absolutely mean it.

If you really knew me...
...you'd know I'm a leftie!
...you'd know no one would walk to school with me as a child because I'd detour at the sight of any living/breathing animal
...you'd know inspite of what is mentioned directly above, I now help save the lives of hundreds of dogs and puppies each year (yet we only own one cat)
...you'd know I am the 3rd of 6 children and that we're all busy taking care of dad (89) and mom (85) these days
...you'd know I was very afraid of the great outdoors as a child, so I spent a lot of time alone coloring and drawing (thus my current passion: Drawing)
...you'd know computers should have come along 25 years sooner, I would have had a much easier and fun time in school
...you'd know my dad was hired by President Johnson and had an office overlooking the Washington Monument back in the 60's
...you'd know I hide from old friends so they don't see how huge I am
...you'd know I had lazy eye as a child (2 surgeries) that left me with poor depth perception (no wonder I sucked at everything in gym class)
...you'd know I'm totally addicted to audio books (Harry Potter series is AWESOME... I love and idolize Jim Dale)
...you'd know I studied to be an Art teacher, but fell in love and left the college life for married life
...you'd know my favorite vacation was a "behind the scenes" tour of Hallmark by one of the artists (a former co-worker of an awesomely talented online friend)

If you really knew me.....
You would know that I will celebrate 30 years of marriage to SWMBO this year.
You would know that the best thing that ever happened to me was my children.
You would know that I have been around the world 12 times and visited or worked in 91 countries.
You would know that I would give it all up to have about 10 acres and a farmhouse in Italy with Olive trees so I could make and sell boutique Olive Oils! (Dream Life)
You would know that I have been involved in mentoring hundreds of teens (literally)
You would know I find great peace at the beach.
My Dad, whom I miss immensely, told me that a $500.00 suit is easily ruined by a $30.00 pair of shoes. Buy great shoes.
As a child - we had meatloaf every Monday. Thanks Mom
You would know my favorite comfort food is Macaroni and Cheese.
I am sure I will be adding to this.
Addition One
You would know that I have over 2000 Albums and CDs - All Genres from Classical to African Chant, Rock, Even Country.
That I love to listen to Dean Martin and Andrea Bocelli - not together of course.
My favorite TV show is No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain.
I am passionate, about the loves of my life.
I believe sarcasm is an appropriate form of humor.

If you really knew me...
You would know that I'm afraid to die alone but am even more afraid to fall for the wrong guy and so I tend to push them away.
You would know that I have never had a boyfriend.
You would know that I would love to have a baby and would do it on my own but only if I was guaranteed to have a Boy, and since I'm not, I won't risk having a girl.
You would know that even though I have a big family, I feel really lonely and it bothers me that they constantly tell me i'm weird, even if they are joking.
You would know I flunked first grade because I couldn't read, but when I graduated high school I was at the top of my class.
You would know I hate compliments.
You would know I rather think something bad is going to happen, that way I won't be disappointed, and I hate when people say, oh don't be so negative, it helps me cope, what's wrong with that.

If you really knew me...
you would know that...
I spoke 4 languages aged 7, 5 languages aged 9, 6 languages aged 11 and 7 languages aged 13...
"things" happened to me that didn't happen to others and nobody believed me even though they were true... Many adults could however vouch for their veracity...
I attended a Christmas Party with President Kennedy and had tea with Winston Churchill...
I was held hostage at gunpoint for 7 hours with my mother in the middle of the night...
I was disliked at school and distrusted by my "friends'" parents but am now the key friend to many...
I am prepared for every eventuality...
I travel with the smallest yet most complete cabin overhead suitcase...
I love technology...
I am about to get my third dog: we have a miniature Labrador, a Jack Russell and the pug puppy is arriving in 2 weeks!...
I am married to my Prince Charming - 25 years this May...
Originally unable to have children I now have 3 beautiful, wonderful, kind, amazing sons and daughter...
14 of my true friends are aged over 86...
I have returned from a magical surprise trip from Rome...
Good thread!
Cheers!

If you really knew me you would:
- know that I am an only child. My mother had another child 5 years before me and he was given up for adoption- met him and have craved an older brother my entire life- even before I knew of his existence I would create him in my mind to play with.
- know that I never wanted children as I believed I would not be a good mother. I now have 2 kids ( both unplanned pregnancies-never unwanted). Both girls- aged 6 &13
-know that I never told my oldest child's father about her untill she asked me to when she was 9- because when he asked, I said yes I was on the pill
-know that although I am very good at what I do, I doubt myself every day and wonder why people admire me
- know that I value friendship very highly and work endlessly at maintaining it
- wish that I could have a lush garden, preferably river fronted and no houses in sight for miles
- know that if I did not have a husband and had the means, I would take in every stray animal and child so that no-one would ever feel unloved or hungry ever again.
- know that I find animal and child abuse dispicable and that anyone killing a person that does this, would be my hero
- know that I am an orphan- both parents died young ( 45 & 57)
- my most sincere wish was that my father would just once have told me that he loved me unconditionally and would not remark that I was fat ( even at 10 when I was a skinny bag of bones)
- know that I do not trust easily- not with my heart, money or secrets
- know that I am a Meatloaf fan through and through
- know that if I had a pc, a cd player and Meatloaf, I could survive years on a desert island
- know that I cry easily- in ads, movies and general.
