I don't listen to mainstream radio at all, so I thought I'd never heard Amy Winehouse. Turns out one of her songs is the theme song for Mad Men, a favorite TV show of mine.
I downloaded her album Back to Black from iTunes last night and love every single song -- what a voice! And I love the true R&B feel of the music. Give me a sultry baritone sax any time!
Ted the Younger, my 17-year-old son, walked in while I was listening, and now he's a fan. (He doesn't listen to mainstream music either, so he'd never heard her.)
Thanks, Omaha Jim, for making me check out her music! I hope she doesn't crash and burn.

My daughter met Amy Winehouse before she sadly became hooked on narcotics and hounded by the British gutter press.
My daughter said she was charming, very beautiful and gave my daughter free tickets to a "secret gig".
"But for the grace of God..."

You'd probably like FEIST too, as well as that chick from the new MAC adds, I think her name is Yael Naem or something like that...I had to get both of their albums, especially after Manda (Persephone) recommended FEIST so highly...we have similar tastes in music and she was dead on...I love that album now...

LOL! I downloaded Yael Naim's album at the same time I downloaded Amy Winehouse's! That was at the request of Ted the Younger, but we have similar tastes in music, so I like it, too. The download included a booklet, which is mostly in Hebrew (her native language). Ted the Younger loves languages (taught himself ancient Greek, speaks German, is teaching himself Arabic and Japanese), so now he'll probably learn Hebrew just to be able to read the booklet!
